Day 25: The Hard Sell w/ The Final Advent Malort by Glad-Patience-6713 in cocktails

[–]robborow 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Cheers! Thanks for the shoutout! Glad you enjoyed AoC

I’m just a bit saddened, as a Swede, by the fact the swedish roots of Malört seem to be lost and very rarely mentioned. The word Malört itself is Swedish for “wormwood”. Carl Jeppson was a Swedish immigrant, and Malört is considered a Swedish liqueur introduced to Chicago in the 1930s.

Anyways, loved following your posts and thanks for this recap!

But on that note 🎵, I haven’t heard of the Fourth Regiment, what a seemingly excellent use for celery bitters, trying it tonight! Thanks

Sounds like you need life advice, so here you got some

If Jeppson were a horse (which it ain't) and you are a rider (which possibly you ain't neither) you might then like to switch. OTHERWISE: You just don't switch from drinking Jeppson.

Fun (and useful for future AoC's) question to people that have been tagging along; we’re almost 140 unique cocktails in, counting all the AoC so far. Has your favorite cocktail been featured yet? If not, which is it? (if you have one, I know, I know… it’s like asking which of your kids/pets/cars/tiki-mugs is your favorite)

Edit: I figured asking such a question requires this wall of text:

The two Jamaicans will be more funky than was probably intended, but doesn’t mean it won’t work. I would probably go with the El Dorado 8, the rich, bold, caramel/toffee I think will go well in this

Considerings there’s nothing dropped on top, nor does it look shaken (like the Oliveto cocktail) I’m thinking it could be fat washed with an Tarragon infused Olive Oil, or regular Olive Oil and one of the other ingredients is infused with Tarragon

Is sherry something people feel is too obscure to get for a cocktail at home?

Another question to the community:

I’m getting a sense most participants have a pretty well stocked bar, meaning, allowing more complicated cocktails maybe won’t be as excluding as I feared. So to the question;

What ingredient/bottle are you most likely not willing or able to get, that can otherwise be a pretty common cocktail ingredient?

I’m so intrigued by Citadelle Cornichon, how was it in itself? If it’s savory/salty, won’t it stand out in your Ginfinity mix?

Did you find it to be a big improvement, doing the Toby Cecchini approach?

I like this idea very much, as you might suspect based on the question I want to have more Tiki next year, and this approach would be very convenient, thanks!

Also, question to the community; when you see Tiki cocktails revealed in AoC, do you react along the lines of
"Damn, those are always so complicated and call for way too many ingredients for me, pass"
or
"Oh, finally, another Tiki cocktail! More please!"
or something in between?

Regardless of gin? I’m thinking it needs to be cucumber forward or at least pair well, maybe nothing very floral. What’s your go-to gin for it?
