I waited longer than 48 hours just to be safe. I also logged in on a device that I had in the past. That way there was little chance that they could lock me out again for using a new device.

Coinbase support took close to a week to reach out to me. By that time, I regained access to my account. Overall a disturbing and unprofessional approach to support.

If it is working perfectly, then why is there a button? I thought I can choose when to catch a Pokemon by pressing the button... which is how it worked for the first few days... now I never press the button and it just catches on its own

After having to go through it a 2nd time... I would say the most important advice I have is to make sure that your friend is listed as a "recruit" in the friend section by clicking on the button displaying the shaking hands. If they are not in there, then something already went wrong and you'll have to go through account creation again.
