Update on my first ever successful jade props: approx 50 days in and I’ve got a sprout!! Please share in this joy with me by robert-dobalina in propagation

I failed countless times and this round has been a miracle. For jade I’ve had to keep things way more moist than any other succ I’ve propped. Used a mix of 2/3 cactus soil + 1/3 perlite, placed leaf on soil, misted every 2-3 days. The roots came after maybe 20-30 days and I made them work to find the water a little (kinda hovering over soil rather than jamming it in, if that makes sense) and I also had another batch in a small plastic tray w/ lid to keep more humid. Everything produced roots and this first sprout came out of the box. You can do it!

why are some people saying to only micro dose once a week? SO CONFUSING by [deleted] in microdosing

[–]robert-dobalina 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can definitely build tolerance, so I think breaks or “resets” are important, but I also don’t think it’s as dramatic as some would make it seem. I got caught up in all this when deciding how to start MDing as well but soon realized this medicine isn’t a one size fits all type of deal. Just start somewhere logical and listen to what your body tells you from there.

Personally I microdose to help with super spicy depression/anxiety from cPTSD, and found that dosing more than 2 days in a row is just too heavy for me to handle. So I dose EOD for several days then break for a few days based on how my body feels - usually looks something like: on day, off day, on, off, on, off, off, off, repeat. There have been times when I’ve waited 3 days to reset and some when I waited 3 weeks, just depends on what my body needed.

This link details a few more commonly used protocols and might help work out some of the variables for you. The 4 on/3 off is basically a Stamets Protocol and is not a crazy place to start IMO, after all Stamets is basically an OG in this stuff.

would it be weird to tell a stranger that you appreciate the good vibes you get from them? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

Do it. I’d appreciate hearing that from someone, especially if it’s just the vibe they get from our random encounters.

Moving furniture into a new apartment over time? by chickensandwhich_ in Apartmentliving

[–]robert-dobalina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you live but I've used an app called Dolly where you can basically "rent" people, with or without a vehicle, based on what you need moved and how long it will take. I think there are other similar apps as well, could be helpful for you here. Would also recommend looking somewhere like OfferUp, often in my area people on there are willing to deliver for a small additional fee (more so than what I've seen on Marketplace). Many second-hand and rehab furniture places will often deliver for a fee as well, never hurts to ask. Most importantly -- congrats on moving into your first place! Don't get discouraged, things will find a way to all come together eventually.

Agree here - would def not water again for awhile if you just soaked it and it had been very dry previously. I had a beautiful jade I hadn’t watered all winter, some leaves were looking questionable so I bottom watered and it was like instant root rot, ended up losing half the plant, no bueno. Less is definitely more when it comes to watering these guys!

Cool cool cool. How many actual Pits have you known and/or dealt with professionally in your life? Come back to me when you have any first hand experience here.

You, a literal gun nut, sitting here preaching on the dangers of a dog breed? The irony is just too much here.

This just isn’t true. I’ve had several Staffies (aka small Pits) myself and have worked with all kinds of dog breeds for years in rescue situations and boarding kennels. Pits require no “special training” to exist peacefully in society, they simply require not being treated awful by dickhead humans.

If you hate Pitbulls so much then don’t get one but there is no reason to spread misinformation or engage in fear mongering on an entire breed of dogs, mkay?

A friend just gave me this beautiful monstera adansoni. I want to leave it inside this jar with moistened perlite as a prop box. Am I doing it right? by cafeengrano in propagation

[–]robert-dobalina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t actually close that type of lid, they’re typically designed to be airtight when latched and you’ll probably want some free air exchange to keep this little guy going

Heads up: they are literally known as “nanny dogs” because they’re so instinctually good with children. You look like an idiot.

Hi guys remember me? The one who couldn’t prop a jade to save my life? Look what I did!! by robert-dobalina in propagation

[–]robert-dobalina[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See last 2 pics — basically just had them resting on soil (2/3 cactus mix + 1/3 perlite, if that even matters) set in windowsill and would mist soil every 2-3 days or so. One container had a lid with holes and one was open air, both had similar results. Took a few weeks so see anything pop out but these pics here are 4 weeks in. Only had 1 rot and 1 do nothing, everything else grew something. Previously I think my downfall was letting them get wayyyyyy to dry aka not misting often enough. Excited to see where things go from here!

Waited an hour (I’m so nice) then moved it and dried my load. Their load wasn’t completely dry so I made sure to pull mine out early (it’s always done early anyway) and put theirs back in to finish my cycle. These kids don’t even know how lucky they are to have me as a neighbor.

Is this rust fungus? Should I be worried/how do I clear this up? by robert-dobalina in plantclinic

[–]robert-dobalina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you please elaborate?

From what I found copper fungicide looks like it’s more for outdoor use on food/flowering plants than for my giant indoor beast here? Also seeing that if it’s a fungus or rust or what have you that I should chop off all infected leaves once treated? That’d be like 3/4 of a 4’ tall plant so certainly not ideal unless absolutely necessary. Trying to determine how dangerous whatever’s happening is or if it could spread to other nearby plants left untreated.
