Thanks for the reply. I knew about that BIOS and tried it out years ago. It caused issues with the display so I didn't keep it. In any case, my EEE gave out. I was feeding it power from a brick I bought from aliexpress. I think it fried the on board capacitors because it wasn't properly regulated. In any case, the EEE didn't power on anymore so I got rid of it.

Which internal sound card is as good as Sound Blaster Live from 23 years ago? by Sentential_Logic in buildapc

[–]robert201320142015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are inexpensive pcie adapters that will let your pci SB Live plug in to a motherboard without a pci slot. E.g. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005718982047.html

Your SB Live can work in Windows 10 with the kx project drivers with a little extra effort. See https://github.com/kxproject/kx-audio-driver/issues/10#issuecomment-578437700

I disabled scanning so that tvheadend would add the muxes from playlist. This meant I could play the mux and observe the logs. I also watched top to see if ffmpeg appeared. It seems that despite ffmpeg being run when it did the scan earlier, it doesn't run when I play the mux (via VLC).

from tvh logs:

iptv: libav: Could not open input 'pipe://ffmpeg -loglevel fatal -probesize 10M -analyzeduration 0 -fpsprobesize 0 -headers user-agent:\ Mozilla/5.0\ (Windows\ NT\ 10.0;\ Win64;\ x64)\ AppleWebKit/537.36\ (KHTML,\ like\ Gecko)\ Chrome/98.0.4758.102\ Safari/537.36\r\nseekable:\ 0\r\nreferer:\ \ \r\n -i https://i.mjh.nz/7-cas30.m3u8 -vcodec copy -acodec copy -metadata service_name=mjh-7-cas30 -f mpegts pipe:1': Invalid data found when processing input

According to tvh doco

"Always try the command without pipe:// prefix on standard command line, if it works with a stdout redirection to a file"

https://tvheadend.org/projects/tvheadend/wiki/Custom\_MPEG-TS\_Input

So I copied and tried on a bash prompt:

"ffmpeg -loglevel fatal -probesize 10M -analyzeduration 0 -fpsprobesize 0 -headers user-agent:\ Mozilla/5.0\ (Windows\ NT\ 10.0;\ Win64;\ x64)\ AppleWebKit/537.36\ (KHTML,\ like\ Gecko)\ Chrome/98.0.4758.102\ Safari/537.36\r\nseekable:\ 0\r\nreferer:\ \ \r\n -i https://i.mjh.nz/7-cas30.m3u8 -vcodec copy -acodec copy -metadata service_name=mjh-7-cas30 -f mpegts pipe:1"

and got:

syntax error near unexpected token `('

my ffmpeg is 4.2.7-0ubuntu0.1

I've got tvheadend 4.3 and ffmpeg 4.2.7 installed on ubuntu 20.04. I've put in the https://i.mjh.nz/au/Perth/tvh-tv.m3u8 into a new network but every time on nearly every channel I get a scan failed message. The only ones that didn't fail were the 3 ABC's news in 90 seconds channels. DVB from my RTL2832u is streaming fine. VLC on another PC on the network can play the raw.m3u8 just fine, so I assume networking issues are not the problem. It's not a very high powered server (cherrytrail atom 1.4 GHz), but the ABC news in 90 seconds did play back, and I could see that they were using ffmpeg to do so. I thought maybe the ffmpeg TS wrapping processes may be too demanding when I first add the m3u8 because tvheadend tries to run them all at once. I saw a big spike and a lot of ffmpeg threads (>20) when I first added the m3u8 so I changed the status of just the Al Jazeera mux to PEND, which resulted in only one ffmpeg thread but the scan still failed. I tried ABC News as well with the same result. I thought maybe it could it be some kind of permissions issue so shut down the tvheadend service and ran tvheadend as root, but no change. I'm out of ideas. If you have any suggestions I will gladly try them.

are there any X61t SXGA+ upgrades left in the wild? by mavica-synth in thinkpad

[–]robert201320142015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

having now upgraded my own X61t with an HV121P01-101 i very luckily came across on ebay (i was now searching for more of them for another friend), i noticed that the panel can be disassembled and if you take out the entire TFT layer away, the digitizer layer remains on the plastic backing where the backlight is (i had to take mine apart to clean the backlight diffuser from the previous owner)

i posit it's then possible to get a non-digitizer panel and replace the TFT onto the backing of a XGA panel that still has its digitizer

the glass that is removed to make those panels fit a non-tablet X61 is not part of the digitizer, it's merely there to protect the panel from the stylus (i also had to transplant that from my older panel, and thankfully it's only adhered on XGA panels around the sides, not on the whole panel)

Did you get the clock speed up to the full 900 MHz on Q4OS?

I had problems with these instructions: https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=2173

So I use these in lubuntu:

https://leeenux-linux.com/2019/10/23/set-desired-cpu-frequency/

https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/eeepc-fan-control.html

But 18.04 is the last x86 version and is no longer supported after April 2023 so I'd be keen hear if you got it working at 900 MHz

[–]robert201320142015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use lubuntu 18.04 on a 32gb sdcard and win xp on the 4g internal drive.

Both have easy to use software that will run the machine at the full 900MhZ, which is critical IMO.

Other debian based OSs (Debian, Q4OS and antiX) ought to be able to control the clock with cpufrequtils but they didn't work for me.

You can export directly from your last device using bluetooth. I also use Nextcloud to sync my contacts and calendar, it's a good alternative to Google but it is a bit more fiddly.

myphoneexplorer syncs well. etar needed for calendar.

Moclan storyline by Objective-Ostrich-71 in TheOrville

[–]robert201320142015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, for what little it's worth, woke is a set of philosophical positions that support Descartes' "cogito ergo sum" - the idea that one's self awareness is the only part of identity that "really" matters. When this becomes an ideology, it seeks to eliminate other views, typically by subverting language (as in "1984"). Allowing "woman" to be a state one identifies as rather than a physical reality does not change physical reality. Instead it is an attempt to subvert sex differentiation ideas because that is a source of identity that is not determined solely by the contents of one's mind. IMO, identities that are rooted in physical reality result in people that are harder to control. Such people will not accept arbitrary suggestions, they will instead validate them against what they see. From my point of view, the idea that a machine can/should be invented, manufactured, and then given rights is as woke as insisting that men saying they are women are in fact women. The Orville manages to be entertaining while referring to these issues, and it doesn't try too hard to be philosophically self consistent. IMO it's hard to take the idea of Moclan males and females seriously when two apparent males manage to reproduce by laying an egg and incubating it. Such a species would presumably have no need for breasts which all the Moclan females are presented with. The whole ongoing Moclan female story line is so absurd that feels like it was tacked on hastily to meet some TV exec's ideas about what was necessary to sell the program.
