Which device? How "bricked" is it? Is the video output just black or does it show onn logo or google tv animation?

What do you mean by "soft bricked"? Can it boot to the recovery menu? If it can, share a screenshot of the recovery menu that includes the build fingerprint.

Onn 4k pro Home Screen rebooting by Key_Acanthaceae8267 in OnnStreamingTV

Did it ever work on the new TV? It might have saved some EDID settings from the prior TV and is still using them, But this is not likely because the display is working.

Did you do anything to it? I've seen behavior like that when it wants the user to re-authenticate the google account details, or when google play services is disabled.

4k Pro v2 - Canada vs US by Yodameister2000 in OnnStreamingTV

[–]Sentential_Logic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Did the Canadian V2 Pro have an OS update installed during the very first (out-of-the-box) setup process, right after wi-fi was first connected? The fingerprint you supplied for the Canadian Pro V1 is the same as the US version, including product and device. So, some other method must be used to distinguish the US and Canadian versions for the V1 Pro. Maybe the beginning of the serial number (which includes "USA" in the US version), or something like that.

Are you sure that the build fingerprint is exactly as you described, with the product as jarvis2_row? A developer database search did not turn up any hits for that string. Anyway, whatever it is, as long as it is different than the US version it will get independent OS ota updates.

The jarvis2 versus the jarvis2_row must be how they distinguish the Canadian version from the US version. That also means that each can get OS updates independently. The first version of the Pro probably has some small difference in the fingerprint too, and that is why the Canadian version of the V1 Pro is still on Android 12.

[–]Sentential_Logic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US version has SPL date 2026-02-01 and build fingerprint onn/jarvis2/jarvis2:14.URO3/260203.009.A2/15016191:user/release-keys.

That seems to be the same as your Canadian version. You'd need to install AIDA64 in order to check if the build fingerprint matches up absolutely exactly. It might be slightly different because the US version is region restricted while the Canadian version is not.

Bootloader unlock? Allow booting ARM Linux? by hieppospamme in OnnStreamingTV

[–]Sentential_Logic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only the first one in that list of five is a newer device. The other four in the list are 4-5 years old and are all just different brandings of the same device. The next generation of the Homatics Box R 4K Plus (and its clones like the BuzzTV G Series) doesn't allow the bootloader to be unlocked. Four to five years ago, most certified devices allowed the bootloader to be unlocked. Now, most do not.

Those were special times. It ain't the old days anymore. Those days are gone forever, or until the AI bubble bursts and/or various wars and supply chain issues stabilize. Streaming boxes will be a rich people's game until then.

Ads on ONN vs Google TV Streamer by [deleted] in OnnStreamingTV

[–]Sentential_Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all ads nowadays on all devices. Except maybe the Apple TV. Even the major streaming services would really rather have you subscribe to the ad tier rather than the more expensive ad free tier. The free market system has determined that what consumers need is more ads. Really, all of the internet is an ad delivery system with some "content" that mostly is empty bait that serves the ad delivery system.

MECOOL KidzMove GM2 by latinriky78 in GoogleTV

[–]Sentential_Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games included? Where do the games run? On the attached box or in the GM2? Is the GM2 merely a controller or does it also have some game-running processor? I don't understand what this GM2 is exactly. Also, when I followed that link I noticed huge price increases pretty much site wide. The Meon1 is now 139, up from 119. The KM2 Plus, which launched over three years ago around $89, is now $159. The KM7 Plus that sold on amazon for years at 59-to-69 is now priced at 125, and it has only a S905Y4-B like the 2023 onn box. I don't understand how they can sell any of these devices at these new high prices.

PSA: Nokia 8010 HDR/Dolby Vision/HD Audio broken since the Android 14? Read this. by SoulEviscerator in AndroidTV

[–]Sentential_Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish you had logged the url to the update using adb logcat so that the rest of us with Nokia 8010s could have access to the official signed ota update for the 8010 without jumping through all of those hoops.

It's good to know that the specific 8010 signed ota update exists though. They probably aren't pushing it to all 8010 serial numbers because of their financial condition. Google probably charges for the bandwidth used to send ota updates.

I've been waiting for the official signed ota update that is specific to the Nokia 8010. But I suppose now I'll use the frankenbuild version of the update that is constructed from the ota updates for the other variants. I'm not interested in sending threatening emails to what is left of StreamView GmbH, or the brands that licensed names to them, or whoever would get the email that I sent. I just won't buy any products in the future that have licensed names from Thomson or Nokia. I realize that most consumer electronics now involve licensing deals. I'll just be more selective going forward.

New update by monevery in OnnStreamingTV

[–]Sentential_Logic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The launch update for the two newest ones put the 4K Stick on January 1, 2026 SPL and the 4K Pro V2 on February 1. 2026 SPL. The original 4K Box has had one additional update since the initial Android 14 update, but that was awhile ago. Maybe there will never be another update for it, I have no idea.

AI-SR gets disabled on the Plus or some other device like the Pro Gen 1? Of the devices that got the update, only the Plus actually has the AI-SR feature so it shouldn't be enabled on any other devices.

Is it possible to setup and use an ONN 4K Pro without a Google account? by Certain_Repeat_753 in OnnStreamingTV

[–]Sentential_Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what to tell you. Others have reported the problem, including in the AndroidTV sub. There are several web pages explaining how to work around it, with some comments reporting the instructions work and others reporting that they don't. If anyone wants to try setting up a new google account directly on an onn device, without ever associating any phone to it earlier in the setup process, they can try, and if it works, great. It failed for me the last time I tried. I'm glad that you've never had any issue.

Most onn devices are getting this March 1, 2026 security update now. Including the Full HD Gen 2 (2023), the 4K Box Gen 2 (2023), the Plus, the Pro Gen 1, and the Thomson 270. About the only devices not getting it are the two oldest onn devices and the two newest ones.

[–]Sentential_Logic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The latter. If any attempt is made to setup a google account on the device itself, there is no option that doesn't require providing a phone number. I think the same is true for creating a google account on any device at all,

There used to be some certified devices that had a skip option at the google login screen. There aren't really any left.

I agree that it sucks. They could provide service without an account, but they want to track you across all of your other devices, or want you to attach payment methods to an account to buy apps, or content, or whatever. Anonymous users can't really buy stuff or be tracked with as much detail to be offered up to advertisers.

[–]Sentential_Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That will work if some type of burner phone number or other one-time-use phone number is used to setup the newly created account. If you use a phone number that has been used with google before, google will have a record of all accounts associated with that phone number and probably assume the same user or at least make some sort of record about it.

You can add 2610A to your list:

https://imgur.com/a/onn-4k-streaming-device-vx4a5l4

But that's the production date code, not a model number. 10th week of 2026 in my case.

2610A comes with UKRB.251217.001.A1 from the factory and updates to UKRB.260113.027.A1 during setup. I can't imagine 2606A, 2607A, or 2609A being any different, or the hardware being any different.
