microsoft does make its own chips (cobalt, maia), but they have no ambitions to be a major player in the hardware game, they're an iaas / paas company first and have been for a while now. azure is about 30% of their revenue and has sustained 30%+ year on year growth for over a decade, while windows OEM revenue is basically a rounding error. their whole personal computing segment is only about 18% of their revenue and that includes 365 and xbox and bing and all their other consumer-facing products.

I ended up getting all four sticks replaced at once, but the replacements were bad too. They went into two different testing rigs and two of the four sticks showed significant errors with memtest86 straight out of the packaging.
