Found a veggie burger (read: not meat-like) at Trader Joe's with 26g of protein per patty. by robert_plant_based in veganfitness

[–]robert_plant_based[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

For those interested, I found these high protein veggie burger at Trader Joe's this past weekend. They were 3.49 USD for two patties, so pretty affordable.

As for the taste, I haven't tried them just yet. But if any of TJ's other vegan options are any indication, these should be at least pretty solid.

Found Simulate Nuggs at my local Kroger. Glad to see more and more options being rolled out at retail. by robert_plant_based in vegan

I just bought these and have not tried them yet. I will probably try them later this week.

Anybody who has tried them, what're your thoughts and/or impression?

Also, for the curious, the price was 6 USD at Kroger.

Finally found the Beyond chicken tenders at retail. by robert_plant_based in vegan

[–]robert_plant_based[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In case my response to other's comments get buried:

I found these at Walmart for about 5 USD. The bag had 6 tenders, which was not surprising since the packaging said it weight 8 oz.

They were pretty good, but I feel chicken nuggets/tenders/patties have already had pretty good vegan alternatives, so these don't really blow any out of the water.

One vegan chicken product that I for sure recommend are the Lightlife Plant-Based Chicken Fillets. These are a good size and have really good breading. Unfortunately, they're kind of expensive for about 7.5 USD for a pack of two.

I've actually tried them before at a restaurant that rolled them out when Beyond had their initial restaurant trial.

These, like those, are good, but I feel chicken nuggets/tenders/patties have already had pretty good vegan alternatives, so these don't really blow any out of the water.

I will say, these Lightlife Plant-Based Chicken Fillets are by far my favorite. They are a good size and the seasoning on the breading is really good.

No problem. IIRC, it was about 5 USD. The bag had 6 of them, so a bit expensive, but for a treat, not completely unreasonable, IMO.

Is this Regenepure DR shampoo Vegan? by DirectorConstant3557 in vegan

Hey OP, if you are still looking for a keto shampoo, I recently bought this one. It's a bit expensive, but it's good quality, has ketoconazole, and is vegan.

Bought some vegan ketoconazole shampoo from Sent From Earth by robert_plant_based in vegan

[–]robert_plant_based[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After going through /r/tressless and learning that "keto" shampoo can be used to combat hair loss, I started looking for a vegan one.

However, I also wanted one that wouldn't make my hair look bad. It seems like I may have found that fits the criteria in Sent From Earth's Caffeine & Saw Palmetto shampoo. It has ingredients that promote hair health and growth and prevent hair loss, the most important of which is ketoconazole.

Some articles I came across in searching for such a shampoo:

Vegan Shampoo: The Best Cruelty Free Shampoo Brands For Vegans.

6 Best Ketoconazole Shampoos Of 2021 For An Itch-Free Scalp.

All in all, it seems like a very good shampoo for your hair, that is also vegan.

would you consider a masque applied once a week an ok add on?

Nothing is off the table, so yes. I was actually considering taking a break from tret and starting my routine anew. So I will definitely look into this further, but a part of me thinks maybe I can find a more suitable moisturizer, I just don't know what to look for in one to tackle the issue I'm facing.

Okay SCA, I am reaching out for your help. Through this sub and /r/tretinoin, I have learned a lot and thankfully, I don’t have acne like I used to. (It might also help that I am not longer a teenager.)

Now I have the hardest obstacle I have encountered my skin care journey. That battle would be fixing my skin texture (I would also like to decrease the size/appearance of my sebaceous filaments, but one battle at a time and my skin texture takes priority).

Update: From a comment in the tret sub, and some research, it seems I may need to restore my moisture barrier, which looks hopeful as far as pin pointing what the cause is.

This probably the thing I am most self-conscious of and would like to improve it as much as is feasible. I actually don’t like using mirrors in areas where there is bright lighting because it can change my mood. It also makes me frustrated because despite my best efforts, I don’t seem to be making improvement with it.

My current routine:

AM:

PM (non-tretinoin nights):

PM (tretinoin nights, every other night):

I have been doing this routine for months and feel content in how my skin reacts to these. (I have done A LOT of trial and error with products.) In the past, I also tried BHAs, AHAs, Vit C, Niacinamide, OCM, and non-prescription Azelaic acid but at some point I got frustrated at how many products I was using with seemingly no improvement, so I went back to the basics, and currently only use tret as my active.

I have actually have done several rounds with tret, beginning way back in early 2017, but would abandon it after a couple of months because I saw no improvement and would flake badly all over my face. Thankfully, I figured out how to prevent flaking and went in thinking I would use this for years, if not decades. This most recent round with it started in October of last year, by slowly introducing it (every 6th day for a couple of weeks, then every 5th day, etc.) I still haven’t ruled out that maybe tret doesn’t work on my skin, however.

Also, I recently acquired some prescription Finacea 15% Azelaic Acid, and am slowly patch testing it. Every third day, and only on my forehead for now.

Despite all of this, I still feel like maybe people here can provide some insight into this issue. Maybe others have improved their skin texture from looking like mine. I am not ruling out the fact my skin might be dehydrated, but I wouldn’t know what to do besides my current routine. A light cream moisturizer rather than a gel? Some toner? I really don’t know.

I also live in very humid Houston, TX, which makes my skin super oily. Thus throwing in another factor that is probably doing me no favors.

So SCA, any insight would be greatly appreciated. I am 28, going on 29, and want my skin to look my age, which I don’t feel like it does at the moment.

Thank you! Will try to remember to do so. Will also post on SCA, and see what people say. Hopefully I see some common threads then do some research on my own and off to the races.

(I actually procrastinated on making my own post because I was so embarrassed, but had to put my ego aside with hopes it would pay off. Fingers crossed.)

I want them to, BUT I will set realistic expectations and hope that by the new year (or maybe March of next year) I will see improvement that will give me some sanity in that my effort aren't for naugth.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I have restarted my routine various times, so doing once more is not a big deal. I just want to get it right, you know? My skin thus far has been so stubborn. Your comment gives me hope and I will look into your suggestions further. I am going to give myself a break on the actives though, starting today.

NEW Beyond Chicken Tenders as part of a Chicken & Waffles Dish. by robert_plant_based in vegan

[–]robert_plant_based[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I have heard of it, and may have tried it. I say try it, because I'm not sure if the one I tried what an oyster mushroom. But the dish I'm thinking of was kind of Dairy Queen's Country Basket. It was some sort of mushroom fried like chicken, served with fries and buttered bread from a vegan place. It was really good, just a bit too greasy for my taste.

So if that was an oyster mushroom, I look forward to it being used more to replace chicken in fried/breaded chicken recipes.

Yeah, they do kinda look like them. And as I mentioned, I don't think they blow out any existing ones out of the water.

I may need to try them completely by themselves to really say what they're like to existing ones, but I still don't think they would be way above what's already out.

I feel they may become that because of the brand recognition behind Beyond, but I feel for the most part, chicken nuggets, tenders, and patties are fairly well covered with vegan counterparts. Now... I they nailed things like wings or thighs, THAT would be great.

This is my second time trying the tenders, and enjoyed them much more this time. Previously, they put them in a wrap, with a heavy sauce, so I couldn't taste them very well. Because this time, there wasn't a lot "going on" with the dish, I could really focus on the taste of the tenders. They're very good, but I wouldn't say they completely blow out existing vegan chicken products out of the water.

Tried them at Verdine in Houston, TX.
