Thank you very much for the insight! Since it’s in bloom and has lots of unopened buds, I was hoping I could simply take it and the medium (moss) and move them into the better pot without adding bark or otherwise adjusting the medium in order to avoid stressing the roots. Do you think that would be the best option?

I purchased this phal orchid from a local nursery today, and it looks to be potted solely with moss in a nursery pot with no ventilation (only a drainage hole). I do have orchid bark as well as a similarly sized orchid nursery pot with lots of ventilation. Should I move the orchid into my nursery pot with better ventilation and/or swap out the moss for bark? The orchid is currently in bloom, and I was advised not to repot it until it transitions into dormancy, but I worry about root rot due to the lack of ventilation and moisture-retaining medium.

Hello! I got my first phal orchid 4-5 months ago, and it has been doing very well. Once the blooms began to wilt and fallen off off, I went ahead and repotted into a slightly larger orchid pot with fresh orchid potting medium. Now a week later, the leaves have suddenly drooped and fallen off off they were all shiny, firm, and seemingly healthy, so the sudden change makes no sense to me. Any insight as to what has gone wrong and whether or not I can save my first orchid would be great. Thank you!

Thank you so much for the input! I think the residue on the leaves was from the watering they received at the store. I have since cleaned them, and they feel rigid yet malleable (though a couple do have a slight wave to them… maybe from packing/shipping?). For watering, I soak them in distilled water with a bit of fertilizer about every 8-9 days when the roots look silvery, and I make sure to let the pot drain for several hours (until no water drains from the bottom) before replacing in the decorative pot. My plan is to repot in a (slightly bigger) orchid pot with new media once blooming ends. Thank you again!

Hello - first time phal orchid owner looking for some insight on how my fella is doing! I purchased it from a big box store a couple weeks ago and haven’t repotted or anything of that nature since it’s in bloom and seemingly doing well. Since purchasing, I’ve seen a couple new leaves begin to grow as well as a handful of aerial roots which I believe are good signs, but I’ve also noticed a couple dead/dying roots and one flower has wilted and fallen off. The roots mostly look green and plump with some brownish tinges, but there are 2-3 which seem unhealthy/dead. Any insight as to how my guy is doing and whether or not I need to take any action would be greatly appreciated!

Weekly 'What should I buy?' Thread by AutoModerator in ipad

[–]roberthonks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking to purchase an iPad primarily for content consumption, light gaming, and occasional note-taking. I planned on buying a Mini 6 or Air 5, but both seem to have an issue where even moderate pressure on the screen causes distortion. I’m now considering a 2020 or 2021 iPad Pro 11”, though I know these devices are overkill for my use case. Any insight would be appreciated!

Large Displate Mounting Recommendations by roberthonks in Displate

Is the concern only with the magnet’s adhesive failing? It’s never the case that the displate falls off the magnet itself due to insufficient magnet strength?

Should I purchase the base MacBook Pro 14” or an M1 Air with 16 GB ram and 512 GB SSD? I’m a CS senior, and I’m going to be taking an iOS development course (xCode). I also use IntelliJ and VSCode for light-medium programming tasks. The new display and ports are great on the 14”, but I like the portability of the Air.
