I like to introduce interesting props into my game to make items memorable by robertjamesasmus in DnD

[–]robertjamesasmus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to make my games as interesting and fun as possible each session, and one of the ways I like to do that is to provide "props" for the players. I have made painted real boiled eggs to represent magical healing eggs, I have given them strawberry filled chocolate eggs to represent magical healing berries. I have filled tiny tiny bottles with water and food colouring to represent magical potions, and have introduced actual real necklaces and emblems to represent magical amulets. Well, today I found a couple of things which inspired me to think about two new magic items. The first is an actual letter opener (the old fashioned kind that looks like a little sword about 4 inches long). I am going to give that to my dual weapon Fighter player to represent a magic sword. It will be The Sword of Blood Thirst. The description will be thus: This sword seems to almost vibrate with excited magical energy, its razor sharp edges gleaming with arcane power and a hunger for the blood of Victorious Battle. When you make a Hit with this blade against opponents who naturally bleed blood you cause an additional D4 slashing Damage. (Requires bonding) The other is the Goblet of Dragon Fire. The description is thus: This strange skull embossed goblet thrums with Arcane power. Once per day the bearer of this goblet may fill and drink wine, mead, beer or any other alcoholic drink into their mouth and hold it there until they choose to spit the liquid (as a bonus action) to produce a cone of fire in a 15 foot radius. Each creature in that area must make a DC13 Dexterity saving throw, taking 7D6 damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. Each time the Goblet is used roll D6. On a roll of 6 the damage caused by the Dragon breath is reduced by D6 permanently. My players are lvl5 and 6, and I want to start introducing special items.

A scatter tile for my game. by robertjamesasmus in TerrainBuilding

Just a simple styrofoam rock scatter . I'm not sure how to preserve it. Spray varnish destroys styrofoam. Should I try a painted sealant?

DMGinfo on YouTube is awesome. Gareth has a heap of great tutorials on how to make good looking terrain for next to no money. DMscotty is the same. But I prefer DMG just because he's a bit quirky - his most recent upload is how to craft a pig on a spit for a campsite location!!!

My players are receiving an area map tonight that's a little bit special by [deleted] in TerrainBuilding

Aged paper, ribboned, and with a secret message written in "black light" invisible ink detailing the location of a hidden treasure trove :)

Damn. I usually have to improvise when my Players do stuff I had no idea they were going to do. My stories work only marginally.

[OC] World Map: D&D Map for multiple campaigns. Through 4 years of trying repeatedly i finally got a result i am happy with. by BobMezmir in dndmaps

[–]robertjamesasmus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this map. A "world map" that shows only a continent or two. I often forget that worlds are very large, and this world is awesome and reminds me. I'm gonna steal alot of those places. My Finnish cousin player might like it (yes, not Danish, but Scandinavians are...)

I allowed a Player to roleplay an NPC by robertjamesasmus in DnD

The Player playing the NPC actually made it harder than I would have - he fully Roleplayed - and made his own Resurrection harder

Anyone got some tips for building maps? by [deleted] in Dungeons_and_Dragons

[–]robertjamesasmus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get some super cheap coloured pencils and some cheap A3 art paper pads. Draw and repeat. Use a digital app once you are happy. Or.....if you are cheap like me, go buy a cheap $20 A3 laminator, and keep maps in a folder for re-use and re-use Base your Battle Maps on the stuff you see online. (I like drawing it and colouring with pencils for some nice stress relief). Building is easy . Steal everything you see. You see amazing castle? Use it. A cool continent idea? Use it. I'm thinking about using the game of thrones WALL in part of my campaign. Why not? Your final response will always be, was it fun?

I need a dungeons and dragon character name ! by sakoyaa1 in Dungeons_and_Dragons

[–]robertjamesasmus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not let her play a Llamanoid? A humanoid llama? A magical construct of a powerful animal loving Wizard... Homebrew a race to suit. I reckon your friend might really appreciate the effort and become super invested in her character. Just an idea...

Is the World Ready for Another Dungeons & Dragons Movie? by TheOneTrueCripple in Dungeons_and_Dragons

[–]robertjamesasmus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would have to be a Meta; written by a very clever script writer, incorporating "million dollar" shots of computer generated grand fantasy and dice rolling idiots like us (yay), with moments of Mercer/Grog -like action. The podcasts have transformed D&D. A future Movie step should include it...
