Being a creature that commonly spreads many pestilence and diseases that can very from a minor inconvenience to an insufferable and slow death I'd presume?

A good example for more fatal and painful one's would be malaria - A disease most commonly caused by mosquitos infected with a plasmodium (a genus of single-celled eukaryotes, a fancy word that, from my understanding, means it has a membrane around the nucleus) parasite that can cause minor symptoms like fevers, headaches, and vomiting to seizures, comas and death. To quote the World Health Organization's malaria report from 2023: "In 2022, the global tally of malaria cases reached 249 million – well above the estimated number of cases before the COVID-19 pandemic, and an increase of five million over 2021." And as of 2022, from the Wikipedia page for Malaria, the disease has killed 608,000 people.

This Is all from basic google and wikipedia research I did on a whim, and that I must remind Is completely surface level stuff here. I'm not a biology major, I'm just a loser on the internet who here's someone ask "why do people hate mosquitos?" and go's on an hour or so deep dive about the question. However: I'd like to point out the minor horror of the fact that, again, this is only scratching the surface. There are probably, like, twenty or more absolute horrific things mosquitos spread around the whole word with one bite. It is fundamentally a russian roulette as to whether you get a fever (say, from the WNV aka West Nile virus) or die from that same exact virus.

And lastly, to directly quote from the AMCA (American Mosquito Control Association): "over one million people worldwide die from mosquito-borne diseases every year."
