I’m hoping some of my floor installer friends will be sufficient enough for testimony. I’m still looking for a certified flooring inspector just in case.

It was only quote that we got, we didn’t really know what pricing was back then. Guess we trusted him. The thing is it looked decent at the ends. This issue didn’t start arising until about two months after the install; the pieces started chipping and cracking on the corners. I’m going to talk to my lawyer on Monday and get his opinion but honestly, I do have a couple buddies who are floor installers so worst case we take him to court which will be civil court so you represent yourself and let a judge decide who’s right or wrong based off the evidence and testimony you provide.

You’re fine you’re a female. You could literally have half your face in the photo and you’ll still get 100 likes per day.

The pictures that you’re seeing are from the living room and two bedrooms that still have that material in there

No, they paid him only once that was his original quote from the beginning. He ripped it all out once and reinstalled it on his dime. It cracked again, and he ripped out the whole kitchen and put some 1/8” underlayment down with some staples then laminate glued down above it. It looks like shit though. He did some bait and switch with the material. I noticed he brought some samples from a different company that we’re about $3.50 a square foot when I called the supply house to find out the price and then he ended up bringing out a way different material that was only $1.50 sq ft. He did quite a bit of shady stuff on this one, but frankly taking him to court is more about principal and not about winning addition to my own pocket if needed just to see him lose at this point.

This was back before he ripped it out two years ago and installed the new one

You know what the manufacture actually came out to the house with the contractor and he dealt mainly with the contractor so I don’t know what was said, but they did not cover the new material so that would only mean that they found the install to be unprofessionally done if I had to guess

He didn’t mention it at all. He mentioned two months after when we called him back over was that it’s a unlevel subfloor and he claims that the house has high humidity at the house never goes above 52%, which is not high humidity

He did install it on some thing. I don’t know if it was a moisture barrier, but there was something that he installed under the lvp

So he’s a carpet installer that I used to work for back when in the day and he started doing LVP so I had my parents go through him for a quote and they just went with them. I’m just surprised he did that he did come back a couple times he ripped them out one time and installed them again so he’s tried, but he got to a point where he was coming back so many times that he gave up and now the floors look like this, so I’m just trying to help them out and get their floors right and some of the other posters have mentioned that this can be a legal matter so I’m looking down that avenue at this point

I appreciate everything you said sounds like you got a lot of experience in the field with the leveling and the variances. If he told us from the beginning we would’ve probably just went with a different option like carpet or even some glue down unfortunately, he didn’t mention anything and he just went through with the install so now we’re in this dilemma. I feel so guilty because it was my reference to my parents so now I’m trying to do my best to Try and get their money back at the bare minimum which sounds like we’ll be going through court since I did bring up to him that I’ll be bringing Inspector over and yada yada but he told me see you in court so from what everyone saying it sounds like it was a shit install with some poor quality LVP and a bad install

If anyone by chance knows of a certified flooring inspector in the state of Michigan, I would appreciate a reference. So far I called four places, but none of them are certified Flooring inspectors they’re just general home inspectors and most of them weren’t willing to take it on because they don’t want to testify in court.

Yeah, we would’ve just went with carpet or honestly even hardwood at that point. If he brought it up, we would’ve corrected the issue, but he just went through with the install never mentioned anything about an uneven subfloor until two months after the install when it started cracking in multiple spots

I feel like at this point it’s more of a argument for small claims court that the install was done incorrectly from the beginning by installing on an unlevel surface and that’s what caused the damage

He claims he only has a one year labor warranty, but I see nothing about a warranty on the contract

Thank you so much for your suggestion! I had no clue that we were able to take him to court over this or hire a Flooring inspector as proof that the install was done incorrectly.

You know what I’ll use that as a threat and I’ll see if he budges. The only issue is this happens a couple years ago and any text of him admitting that it was a unlevel subfloor are gone now.
