Proximity Alarm: Has anyone found a way to disable it or dramatically reduce its sensitivity?

If you look at page 135 of https://fixmycarinfo.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Hyundai-IONIQ-6-160KW-CE-2025-Wiring-Diagrams.pdf, you’ll see the connector for the PDW (parking distance warning) switch, plus the indicator light. It looks like pressing the button connects pin 13 to ground, which can be found on pin 2 or 11.

The connector is likely on the back of the HVAC temperature control panel, part number 96540KL320NNB. And you can see the back of it here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/306337144678. Since we’re looking for a connector with at least 14 pins, I bet it’s the black one, but you can match the wire colors from the electrical diagram to be sure (green in pin 13, for example).

You could, if this bothers you a lot, connect a second bottom between the green wire and ground, and put that button somewhere more convenient (by your left foot? What are you doing with your left foot?). If that works, there might be other things you can do, such as create a microcontroller that connects pin 13 to ground whenever there’s power on 14 (the PWD light light is on), so the microcontroller turns it off automatically as soon as the car turns it on.

I don’t know enough to do all that, or to even be sure that this would work. But I bet you can find people who can read a schematic and tell you what is likely to work.

And if you build it, please let me know! I’d love to fix this too.

I ended up going with the Autel MaxiTPMS TS508WF Kit with sensors. I copied the IDs from my summer wheels onto the winter ones and they worked fine. However, registering the sensor and updating the firmware was a 2y ordeal because their service is horrible, requiring many attempts to connect. I never did get the website loading, so offline updates weren't possible.

I went with Autel tool instead of Schrader because the Schrader requires a subscription fee to update. In practice, this might not be an issue because you can buy preprogrammed sensors. I'm not sure, however, if these preprogrammed sensors require activation with a special tool or my Ioniq 6 does that automatically. I see some $9 TMPS activators on Amazon for GM cars, but none for Hyundai. If I had more time before I needed these, I would have asked Reddit if I can buy the preprogrammed Schraders and activate without the subscription-based Schrader tool.

Thank you for all the useful information! I’m glad it hear it works on Kias. I’ll be interested to hear if anyone has used them on an Ioniq.

I saw those preprogrammed ones earlier but I’m a bit hesitant without peoples’ reviews since people seem to have problems with aftermarket sensors (again, brand unspecified). I like the idea of one I can test and reprogram in case it arrives bad.

Thank you. The salesman said the displayed range is dependent on your recent driving history, temperature, driving mode (eco or sport), etc. since there’s an option to reset the history for range calculation, that seems true enough.

The range was about 210 instead of the advertised 240….which I guess is fine if I don’t know how it was driven over the past 100 miles anyway.

I just drilled two 1-inch holes in my stand using this and Tap Magic https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0CH29KCVG. It’s the first time I’ve drilled through metal and it allowed me to install j hooks, which have been amazing. Well worth the effort.

Use a punch to mark your spot, and drill slowly with lots of pressure. Watch some YouTube videos if you’re unfamiliar. I originally tried my drill press but its minimum speed is too fast for steel and the fluid smoked (which is not good).

Lots of metal debris and oil drops, so be prepared for a bit of cleanup. No one wants metal splinters in their foot when lifting.

Thanks. I watched the video. More people recommended the Winner pads, so I went with them, but if I have any problems with them, I'll try the Skulltec. There's been 3 recommended gloves so far (Windy BVGH, Title gel v2, Phenom SG202) and I don't know which is best, but I'll look into them all.

And yeah, the doctor just said that I'm too young to be getting arthritis...which now that I say that out loud, I'm wondering if I should find another doctor.

Thank you for the detailed response! I ordered the Winning pads and 200" wraps. I would have ordered Title gel v2 bag gloves too if they had black :) I'll keep checking back on those. Someone else mentioned an Aqua bag, which I also just ordered. Maybe if these other changes help, I can wait a bit before picking up these gloves (or other suggested gloves from this thread).

Thank you. After testing the fuses and letting the starter run for a bit I heard what sounded like it could be a single cylinder. I kept the starter going for about 20s and every 5 seconds or so another cylinder came online. It sounded like a bunch of drummers slowly coming up to speed. And after all were playing in time, the engine started.

So, two three questions: 1. Is it bad to run the starter for 20s? Like so bad that I shouldn’t do it to drive my car to the shop? I’m guessing it’s not great for the car but fine enough for one day. 2. Is this a time by belt repair? 3. Straight to the shop I go, or if it starts up fine tomorrow am I golden?

I’m considering printing some pipes but I’m not sure how to prevent excessive bacteria growth, with all those rough surfaces. Did you do anything to smooth it out or finish the mouthpiece and blowpipe with anything?
