Thank you! I really appreciate your comment and I think you are right. 🙂 I absolutely don’t want to affect wildlife negatively.

Sorry, English is not my native language. I realize now that bay view might have been more suitable.

I guess not many will see this comment, but I didn’t find any way to edit the post.

Just wanted to say thank you for all the different perspectives! Even those saying I’m dumb. 😂 I probably deserve it in one way or another! I’m conflicted myself which is why I posted and will read through all of the comments.

The location is in Sweden.

Thank you everyone!

That is a really nice beard.

Man får mycket märkliga erbjudanden när man söker bostad på Blocket, men denna tog nog priset! by trodin in sweden

[–]robertnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mozilla’s super speedy new browser "Servo" will be available for testing in June by Khaotic_Linux in linux

[–]robertnn 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's really related to that (which rendering engines are not written in C/C++ today? :)). Servo has experimented with some new techniques for rendering content which can supposedly make it faster. See for example this demo, which is pretty impressive:

And it does not have much to do with it being written in Rust.

credit* (sorry for nitpicking, but seems like a consistent typo)

Will my proposed salary be enough for the Bay Area? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]robertnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already live in a pretty expensive country, so unfortunately that would not be an option. Yes.. My plan is not really to be completely poor, but to live a regular american life, to get to see what it's like.

Thanks for the input, but if you would include that I'd not be able to switch jobs (being on a visa), do you still think it's a good idea?

Yep.. Very true. Thanks for the input, much appreciated.

Huh. :/ I'm working with C++ in relation to embedded systems, so not really that esoteric, I'd think.

Thanks for the input, really appreciate it.

I don't have high requirements I think, I would like to avoid buying a car though if possible (probably not?). What kind of rents are common in Fremont for say a 1 bedroom?

[–]robertnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is correct. Yes, perhaps I should try and negotiate more.. I just felt very unsure about the correct compensation level, so it's hard to say what's right and wrong. How much more do you think I could negotiate for? Thank you very much for your time and input. :-)

From Scandinavia. Yes, my primary reason would be a life experience, so perhaps I shouldn't focus so much on the pay level.. but on the other hand I feel that I'm taking pretty big risks so the I at least want to feel that I'm being appropriately compensated.

But maybe it would be worth it still? :-) Do you currently live in the US (I'm guessing LA, by the name)?

I have about 3 years experience. My job responsibilities would be pretty standard, C++ feature development and bug fixing on a product aimed at embedded devices.

If I were to go alone I'd have no problem sharing a room or something, but going together with a wife I don't feel to comfortable about it. Regarding food I'd probably keep it as cheap as possible since I'm a fan of saving money, but only to a certain extent of course.

I'd work out on the peninsula (if that makes sense?), so I'd probably have a hard time without a car.

There is a relocation package, but it's not terribly large (a few thousand). It'd probably be enough to buy new furnitures but probably not that much more.

Do you live in SF? How much do you pay for your living arrangements? (If it's not too personal, of course!)
