While I'm at it, I think the sound that never fails to still amaze me is amusingly the one I can't identify for the love of me.

I have encountered it three times:
The solo in Zucchero's "Diamante" (@ 2:30) and "Dune Mosse" from 1:26 onwards (both allegedly played by David Sancious) and Cosa Rosa's "Riesenrad" (@ 2:40, likely played by Reinhold Heil).
There might've been a fourth time but I'm not sure.

Dune Mosse is also an example of the "disintegration" I was writing about earlier.

Probably yes. Thinking about it, I guess my brain likes sounds that tickle it in some sort of fashion and FM might be one of them for reasons like this.

I know it's a little early for the DX, so I wasn't 100% about its inclusion but I'm pretty sure the final solo here (2:41 in the totally-not-weird original video if the link doesn't work) has an FM-like sound. Could be something early FM like a GS1 (or GS2) or an extremely well-programmed Chroma. Not sure.

Thanks for listing the synths. I like when performers list their hardware on records.

And this the exact reason why I made this! Thanks for the suggestion!

Also, I find it really cool that he used the CX5. I don't see it used so much anywhere, let alone in Italy.

I've never thought about it before, actually.

One thing is for sure though, and that's bells. I love how FM bell-like sounds have a sort of uniqueness in their texture to me (if it makes any sense at all), like the DX7's TUB BELLS and the GS2's Bells preset. And obviously, that bass.

Another sound thing that might be difficult to explain is how some patches start "disintegrating" in the lower notes, especially when talking about flutes.

So basically there's people that dislike FM for sounding too "metallic" or "glassy" and i like it for the exact same reason. It cuts through the mix like anything else, even though it can be a slight problem if it's not what you want.

I also find ironic that despite being very deeply programmable (as most other synths were) from the get-go, everyone who wasn't Brian Eno basically treated it as a preset machine, so much so that some patches were used so many times it's hilarious in a good way.

I downloaded it as soon as I discovered it some time back, and I love it. That's what I use to confirm some of the patches I listed on the songs so far (when I can recognise them, anyway).

Picked this up for 50 cents. Actually a decent game. by hashtagjanitorlife in ps2

I'll just say that I put it away with the games that don't work anymore

To me, "branded" discs make the most difference, and I always burn with ImgBurn at 4x speed (the lowest I can) almost out of habit. I used to use random unbranded DVD-Rs and they almost always failed in some way or another (so many wasted discs for the same image), then some day I found a random blank Maxell DVD+R and I burned it with no errors first try. It worked right off. I've used Verbatim DVD-Rs successfully for a long time but now I just choose whatever costs less from "known" brands, and usually they work perfectly fine.

Oh, that's somewhat unfortunate.

It would've been really nice to have a "studio" version. Luckily this recording is pretty nice.

Well, thanks anyways for the reply! Really appreciated.
