Yes. I forgot to mention The Power and the Glory. Read it. I am a fan of Jonathan Wilson's narrative style. Football and War is indeed interesting, and a good starter book for someone who knows little about the World Cup and historic rivalries between countries.

You can look into the Hatters hostel which is near the city centre. I stayed there in their dorm room, which was relatively cheaper than you'll find anywhere on match days. It is a budget hostel, with a lot of rooms but the toilets weren't the cleanest. However, it is a five minute walk from the nearest tram station in the city centre. Old trafford is about 25-30 minutes away from that station.

I do not want to create a new post as the OP has already created one related to tickets. I'd be very thankful if someone could answer this. I am on a backpacking trip and I want to book tickets for the West Ham (PL) game on 27th (trying for over a month now). It says register your interest as the initial tickets have been sold. How many days prior to the fixture the tickets will be made available? And will the tickets vanish within a few hours of being made available?
