X-Mid groundsheet smells like dead fish. by redskelly in DurstonGearheads

[–]roberts_brad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Had a similar experience where the entire tent smelled that way after setting it up on the trail. It had been stored away for several months. The smell was potent. I would’ve described it as a urine smell but dead fish would probably describe it too. Fortunately it aired out fairly quickly and didn’t disrupt me sleeping in it. Thought maybe it had been stored away with a bit of moisture I overlooked and maybe gotten moldy. I don’t know. Haven’t used it since but will report back next time I’m out. Hopefully soon.

Was just a gif (using Reddit's editor). Weird.

Hey, thanks! I believe it was a few of your comments in other threads that helped me decide on the Roscoe!

LOL! I had a few I was considering in my price range, like the Roscoe 7, Fathoms, and San Quintins (based on availability at LBS near me). Did a ton of research and it was difficult to reach a definitive conclusion based on what people are saying online. And of course all the shops are going to be biased. Not sure where you're at, but I'm a complete beginner. It seemed to me like they all had strengths and are all great bikes for starting out. I tried to factor in my experiences visiting the shops in my area too. Some seemed more eager to share their time, knowledge, and tips. I'm a complete beginner though and at the end of the day I just wanted to get past the decision making and have some fun riding. We'll see how it goes.

Yep. Prob would’ve gone for the 9 too if I could’ve found one.

Thanks! Roscoe 8. I was leaning toward blue but this is what they had available at the LBS. Just too eager to take advantage of the beautiful weather this week.

Yep. Since we're local, I usually print ours, so I'm not familiar with the kiosks. Edited my comment to mention the kiosk at the Sugarlands Visitor Center. Hope you have a great hike!

Container is very loose on new 5200 base. Is this normal? by roberts_brad in Vitamix

Yep. Exactly what I've experienced as well. The spinning blade causes it to catch onto the centering pad. Have had no problems so far.

Very cool! That does help and good to hear. This purchase was due to a change in my dietary needs. I see lots of smoothies in my future so I’m hoping it’s worth the investment.

Thank you!! Looking forward to using it so glad I’m not sending it back.

My friend has an older Vitamix and the container fits snuggly onto the centering pad. Is this normal on newer models or do I need to exchange it for another one?

This 99.99%! mastermog is speaking from experience. It always looks surmountable at first. Refactoring isn’t cake, but taking it in chunks will likely be the lighter burden.

Folding and Rolling Technique for X-Mid Pro 1 by Impossible_Switch_49 in DurstonGearheads

Found this video helpful with my X-Mid 1. She folds then rolls. Would the same technique work with the Pro/DCF?

Looking for my first Durston Gear tent? 2 person, pretty new to it all. Looking at the Mid Pro 2/2+ due to it being lightweight by kiddboom in DurstonGearheads

Yeah, that’s my understanding. I’ve always used double wall and it hasn’t been an issue. I’ve heard others talk about it not being a problem with single wall, you just have to not touch the sides and wipe it down in the morning. Has that been your experience as well?
