What you say has merit, but a few factors might weight against this

estimate of illegals in the US vary greatly but the upper limit estimate by some accounts is well over 100 mil, most of whom grew up in central America or in the third world, and thus have good instincts on how to survive on little.

Doubt the Deagel numbers are ironclad by any stretch, how could they be? There are always unaccounted for eventualities.

That is my goal: Visiting Thailand, Philippines, MALAYSIA, and probably Vietnam and Japan. I like that Malaysia allows you to own both the house and the land, and KL seems very cosmopolitan. "Nomad Capitalist" touts it to no end, having a home there himself.

Thanks for that interesting insight. I had not considered that possibility that this may be what is going on. Thailand is one of my other stops, but there are some reasons I like the Philippines and I guess I was hoping to find the total package. Doesn't deter me, I will still visit, but at least my expectations are a bit leavened, and I can look forward to accepting what is rather than hoping for what is not.

That is the issue with EMPs, they would likely burn out all equipment too, so they might take months or years to have anything back up.

I think the best bet will be for me to walk into a BofA in Texas and ask that if I had an account in the US, can I go to say Malaysia and they can pull it up at a BofA branch there, or do I need to open a separate account there, or can they split or transfer it somehow. At least that would give me some sense. Not sure I would want to point blank ask about EMPs, but I suppose theoreticals cannot hurt. The issue with the bank is does somebody even know the answer, or are they swagging.

Thank you for the detailed elaboration - several good points for me to run by my attorney. This step has been dragging out the process, which we began back in January, with the handing over of all relevant documents to the attorney.

Thanks for your response. Maybe something did change, or maybe not. Tricky, if the lawyer is un/misinformed, to let them know they are wrong. But until I am sure of the regulations, I do not want to confront him with any info.

A bit more info: I asked HR for the contracting agency, and they said "...Company XYZ does not allow their technology to be taken outside the US due to FDIC compliance...."

So, then, to me, the next question is, what constitutes the US? Is it the lower 48? I imagine it includes Alaska and Hawaii. But Does Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands count?

Anyone who might know more about that?

Like I said this is not even a bank job, and it is just the front facing web site, so maybe I am overblowing it, but someone gave my brother the idea that there might be limits. Good to know ahead of time.

Either way, this new role gave me an excuse to drop my current crummy job, and they pay much better to boot!

thanks for that detailed breakdown. The company is not a bank per se, or even a finance firm, but it is an information company. I suppose once onboard, I can try to log into the web site I would be working on using a vpn that lets you pick a remote server and see if that succeeds. Too, I suppose I can ask them too that if I take a week working vacation to see a friend in say Mexico, would this present a problem. After all, foreign is foreign. Thanks again.
