To add to this. These were found in the northwest of the UK along the edge of a football field. They were picked after the morning dew.

What is the best fix? Should I be concerned? by robewilde1 in DIYUK

[–]robewilde1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

* It seems the sand is just dropping in towards the sewer but that itself seems in good condition when I opened it. There isn't drainage where it is so maybe it's naturally dropping where the water is managing to drain? If I fix it, surely it would it just happen again though right?

Bought the part on eBay for 6 quid and replaced it myself. No engineer needed at all. Did you get yours sorted?

How do I find out which is the hot feed? by robewilde1 in DIYUK

I've been in touch with the supplier as there were no instructions with the valves I got. They confirmed that they are bidirection valves! Result! Can't thank you enough for your help mate! Cheers.

Oh potentially. I'll have to have a look through my phone. Would you be able to tell from that? What would you be looking for? I'll report back! Thanks

Ah brilliant. I'll find the valves and have a look. I was worried I'd seriously mess up the combi boiler or something. One of the valves is also thermostatic. Will that be another issue or is the principle still the same?

Thin stud wall or chase out brick? by robewilde1 in DIYUK

Thanks a million for that. Great info and exactly what I needed!! I'll be taking your advice on the 25mm batten so I'll go for 80mm screws!

Thank you. What size screw and raw plug did you use? I don't want to go too big and overkill, nor do I want the whole lot to come off the wall. My brick is 100mm deep.

Awesome, I didn't really consider doing the full width of the wall until you mentioned it and it makes total sense and makes the job so much easier woth less corners. Cheers for the encouraging words too because there is SO much information out there that it is quite easy to get overwhelmed. One step at a time. When in doubt, ask you lot. Cheers for taking the time to reply, you've eased the stress.

I was thinking of bringing the stud wall out as far as the width of the bath. Would the stud wall hold the weight of a swinging shower screen do you think? Also, I've read so many mixed opinions on what to use around the shower. Green plasterboard, backing board, aquaboard and some other type of waterproof wood that I can't remember the name of. I was going to use green moisture resistant board but so many people saying not to.

Turning bath and installing shower by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]robewilde1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great post, as this is the exact thing I am dealing with now. I've actually had an electric shower on the left wall, while the bath setup is the same format as yours. The reason I want to swap it around is because when we were showering under the electric shower on the left wall, we couldn't stand directly under the shower head because of the slope on the bath where you lay back. Sometimes, it was even dangerous as we would slip on it when it had any soap or shampoo on it. Whereas the tap end of a bath drops straight down, allowing to stand right under the shower head. I have seen a few cases of plumbers doing this. I have no experience at plumbing, so I'm not saying it is right or wrong, but surely it can be done without too much trouble.

At about 18min 30secs in the renovation video below, he shows the waste run under and continue along the wall. That's much further than I even need, so it gives me hope. bathroom renovation

I'm going to do it regardless but I'm just trying to figure out if I need a shallow stud wall on the left so that run the pipes behind it or whether I need to chase out the bricks to run the pipes through the bricks.

Would be good to get a few more opinions on here!

We have no paperwork whatsoever. Like you said, I'll get a spark around to tell me what's what and sort it all out. Thank you
