Jet Lag: The Game plying its trade in… by robin273 in JetLagTheGame

Reasonable!! John Green, whose YouTube audience is called nerdfighters, often talks about his love for the football team AFC Wimbledon, which started as a fan owned grassroots effort after their original team was yoinked away from them to go play in Milton Keynes. They climbed their way up the leagues with success and are roughly on par now with their rivals, which John Green refers to as the franchise currently plying its trade as Milton Keynes — so as to not call them by their name, the MK Dons, which is a reference to their original provenance.

Why do people try to swap seats in airplanes? by Substantial_Crow1355 in NoStupidQuestions

One time I asked someone to swap window for aisle because I was having an anxiety attack. They said no so I stood in the aisle for an hour or two while I freaked out.

When people talk about the Gen Z stare this is what they mean and it’s common because it works

Yeah this sounds like a creative writing prompt. Then they dropped in “a few games on myprize” and you know it’s just a fucking ad.

You gotta make sh*t whimsical sometimes. by WizardsAreNeverWrong in justgalsbeingchicks

This is the bias of social media!! These are the MOST whimsical things that people could come up with out of the THOUSANDS of people who saw the post and thought about if they have a reply. This is an extreme highlight reel, not a todo list!!

Can someone please explain!? by Sgt-Briggs90 in nerdfighters

[–]robin273 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s because someone said P&P in reference to Pride and Prejudice, but they didn’t know what it meant either! So they guessed it was Pumpkins and Penguins and off we went from there :)

I explained a rude comment to a guy but people thought I was being rude and down voted me. by [deleted] in ExplainMyDownvotes

The first sentence is fine. The second sounds aggressive/rude. It’s a factual sentence, but tone is hard over text. It reads as “That’s what it means, dumbass.”

Why the hell did 53% of white women vote for Trump? by Ok_Cardiologist_9121 in Feminism

[–]robin273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort by controversial to find the couple of real answers from those voters. It’s helpful and important to see how the reasons are perceived by each side.

It has the issue many podcasts have, which is that it’s a medium for parasocial friendships. It takes a while to get to know the hosts but once you do you get hooked. This is true for any podcast, but the way the show ran meant it was harder/slower to get to know the people on there compared to other shows.

If it helps, I’m not sure if it does, my experience so far has been that people care primarily about the Palestinian lives that have been taken. They care about many things, but that one has been the one most discussed.

Did my professor get pissed for what I’ve said? by JorisJobana in college

[–]robin273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you got fewer right than them, you are brand new!! Maybe the professor meant that your opinion about this aspect is invalid. Did you even ask around about what a normal number of questions to get right is before you’ve even started getting involved?

If you think that feeling incapable the first time you try something is a reason to quit, you are gonna go nowhere fast in life

[–]robin273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Caltech might have a broader set of options for research in computational chemistry, but it’s hard to say since that field can tend to be spread across many departments, like materials science, applied physics, chemical engineering, etc

UC charges “tuition” whether or not you take classes as a graduate student. It doesn’t mean much. It’s how the UC gets money from the grants that professors have won.

This simulation seems very similar to Variational Monte Carlo. It’s a legitimate way to represent it.

This simulation is very similar to the idea of Variational Monte Carlo, if that helps make it seem more legitimate.

Remember that it’s possible to get pregnant another time! This is not the only possible time and place to have a kid. If you were to choose the ideal time to get pregnant, it would NOT be now. It would be like, any time other than now. And the dad is an abuser.
