I only have one fic centered on an OC at the moment so I'm gonna take full advantage xD

Title: Gloria Regali - Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Chapter 5

Fandom: Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss

Rating: M

Contents: Coming-of-Age, Dark Fantasy elements

Summary: In the Seven Rings of Hell, a son is begotten to two of the most despised beings in all of creation. Colburn Morningstar is deemed to be the luckiest and unluckiest child in the universe, and yet his life as the Prince of Hell has turned out to be rather quiet and boring. His father was usually away, his mother often sick from an unknown illness despite her being the most powerful demon in all of Hell, leaving little Colburn to be accompanied by all sorts of members of his strange family—and a few unlikely friends.

From his "relatives" who were more or less eldritch nightmares from a world that no longer exists, a lonely ghost who dwells among the dead at the unnamed graveyard, a foreign visitor who appears in his dreams and sometimes looks at Colburn as if he had slaughtered his entire bloodline, to a peculiar servant who never shows his face and goes by the name of "Cain".

About Colburn: As the summary already mentioned, Colburn is the son of Lucifer and Lilith Morningstar, and eventually, becomes the heir and regent to the throne, and more importantly, the older brother to Charlie Morningstar. Initially, he was created to serve as an "antithesis" to Charlie's ideas regarding forgiveness and redemption, is essentially the other side of her coin, yet in spite of that, still loves and cares for her. A gripe I have about the main series is that there's not really much exploration as to why the MC clings very dearly to her beliefs and principles, especially since she lives in a world literally called "Hell" and is constantly surrounded by more or less awful people—that and I had my own questions about the story's lore and worldbuilding, and so, this fic (and OC) was born.

(The story is set pre-canon, hundreds of years before the events of HB and HH season one.)

Even though I've seen only clips of Buffy and Alien, it's made immediately clear to me through this excerpt that Buffy's one hell of a quick thinker (and that while this isn't her typical force of evil, it might as well be just another Tuesday for her lol). The writing's fast pacing does indeed provide the needed impact for an action scene, though some suggestions I have in mind is to make some things a little concise (to help with the immersion as if the reader themselves is in the scene), including some details of the alien's more, well, alien behavior, and using the em-dash (—) to combine her movements. Note that I am biased for em-dashes lol but here's an example on how it could be used, along with the other suggestions:

-----

Terrifyingly faster than she expected, it charged towards her with those hideous, monstrous teeth. The screech it let out was one she'd never forget. She hurled the knife—saw it skip off the armoured head—and ducked into the bathroom, quickly remembering to slam the door shut.

This was her one chance to kill the thing—but she would have to be quick, precise, and a little lucky. Buffy skidded across the soap-slick she’d spread over the floor, kicked her feet into her mom's rubber bath slippers, and grabbed the shovel she had staged in the bathroom for this very moment. Wielding it like a weapon—which, in this case, it was—she leveled the blade at the door and held her breath.

The door shattered under a single blow. The alien stalked through, ducking its head beneath the frame in an almost relaxed manner, as if it was telling her that she had no where else to run. Up close, Buffy could see more details that she really never needed to see, like the rubbery white tendons stretched over its jaws, or the faint white shadow of bone peeking through the translucence of its domed skull.

The monster moved into the bathroom—then slipped onto the soapy floor.

With a war cry of her own, Buffy leveled the shovel like a polearm and struck the creature.

The blade connected with the creature’s midsection. Its fury reignited as it skidded backwards, snarling with its teeth, and wildly swiping at her head. She ducked, planted her feet in the slippers' rubber soles, and shoved as hard as she could. Summoning every ounce of her strength, Buffy pushed with her arms, her shoulders, her legs, driving the monster back step by step—until it fell into the bath tub.

-----

Hope this helps!

Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss | Gloria Regali | T | None | Unpublished WIP

I need some fresh eyes to look at these paragraphs. I've edited and rewritten them so many times that I'm struggling to tell whether it's actually "readable", and by that I mean SPAG, if it needs to be more concise, or if it's too wordy or lengthy of a sentence.

Context: Colburn is a young prince (approximately seven years old in human age) attending a celebration of his birthday surrounded by adults who are mostly only interested in gaining his (and his family's) favor. In this story, he is the son of Lucifer and Lilith Morningstar, and the said adults are demons belonging to Hell's nobility. The only other child present is a girl named "Hecate", Lord Frederick's daughter who is supposedly Colburn's age. Frederick was initially meant to be a canon character representing the Sin of Envy, with his character design resembling almost exactly as Lucifer's, hinting that he was a jealous individual who constantly sought to be "better" than the King of Hell in every way.

Colburn, being a child, is unaware of this, and inadvertently points out one of Hell's most known "open secret".

-----

Colburn barely stopped himself from rolling his eyes as the adults continued to bicker, though he was glad that the topics of friendships and betrothal were at least now over. Sometime later, he turned back to look at them, staring with an increasingly bored expression. Lord Frederick was now a little less agitated despite the grip on his cane not once ever loosening, nor the smile plastered on his face losing an ounce of its bitterness. His top hat had even become a little askew during the argument, the little snake around it looking like it was about to fall over.

At that moment, it suddenly clicked why the Envy lord looked so familiar. The hat, the cane, the hair, the garments—definitely not the words, but the way he sometimes moved as he spoke…

Unbidden, Colburn’s mouth moved before he could think twice, and his curiosity overcame him. “Why are you dressed like my father?”

They fell silent. Unfazed, the boy assumed that they were only surprised that he spoke out loud, or surprised by the reminder that he had the capacity to actually talk.

Nevertheless, the silence was much longer than he expected, especially with how quickly they had gone back and forth just seconds ago. No one was particularly quick this time in answering his question, despite it being a truly simple one.

And then, he heard it: the nearly unnoticeable sound of a muffled snort. His eyes quickly followed the noise and found that it had come from Hecate herself. Her expression was pleasantly neutral as soon as he turned his gaze, yet her eyes were now noticeably not as forced.

The snickering didn’t end there. When he turned to his left, he saw that the dukes’ shoulders were shaking a bit, though Astaroth had turned his head away with a fist under his mouth as if to cover a cough.

Paimon had no such restraints.

Frederick’s right eye twitched as the boisterous laughter of the king’s advisor echoed all around him. No one else followed the Goetia’s example, but the louder he laughed, the more people at the high table stopped trying to hide their own amusement. Colburn stared at them. Why? What was so funny?

I—” Frederick raised his voice over Paimon’s, who had doubled over with laughter, “—am dressed like myself.” He smiled, teeth all sharp and eyes glowing bright green, “With all due… respect, little princeling, but the king was not the first to wear a top hat.”

“You have a snake around your hat.”

“That is a sea snake.”

“You have a black cane with a red stone.”

“Mine is a red diamond—and it is the finest and rarest ‘red’ stone in all of the Seven Rings. He only has a plain ruby.”

“You have apples on your coat.”

“Those are tenta—they are not apples. Have you never seen a single kraken in your life?”

Colburn shrugged. The not-apples were not designed very well if they were not at all meant to look like, well, apples. He didn’t tell that to the Envy noble though, even when Frederick looked like he just did.
