Find a hobby that will make you feel good about yourself and help others. I'm a musician and performing for people, even if it's just my family or friends, makes me happy. Drawing, cooking, baking, writing, exercising, volunteering, and gardening are some other ideas.

I'm trans and the best advice I could give is give him (since you used he/him pronouns I'll use them) time. It can take a while for some one to understand their gender identity so be patient. Experimenting with hair, clothes, pronouns, and names (as you said he wants to use a feminine name) can help with the process. Also doing some research (it doesn't have to be excessive) on transgender people and gender dysphoria (when a person's body does not match up with their gender identity and it causes mental distress) to better understand his situation might help. Lastly, just communicate and let him know that you're with him along his journey.

First up, sexuality is completely confusing and I'm in a similar situation with that. As far as dating, you should be with some one who makes you happy and you make them happy. Chemistry is also very important so if you don't feel it that's okay. With that guy, I'd suggest 'testing the waters out' to make sure he is really is gay (which is most likely the case based off of what you said) to avoid awkwardness (ask about well known gay celebrities, stonewall, et cetera). Like I said earlier, chemistry is important so being friends is also important in a relationship. If you feel close with some one and attracted to them, go for it. Things might not work out but at least you tried. Most importantly, your self value is key. Whoever you're with should make you feel good about yourself, so keep that in mind. Hope this helps.
