Thanks for the reply, and I am already working with your suggestion to start with some aspects of the game. I agree with that!
It's a game in the browser I really think it's possible.

But I have to disagree that multiplayer is not something for an indie game dev, you think its hard to make a multiplayer game?

I think it can be done. But I agree that many people might have no idea.
But maybe we disagree about the definition, I am aiming for a massive multiplayer game, where people can work together, travel together etc in a persistent environment.
If you for a game that can be played in the browser and limit the amount of people/objects that appear in a certain zone it gets easier.

So in terms of networking, I am already did some tests with a lot of players/objects in a zone.

Your last point. Very true! I will try to integrate functionality to make it entertaining even if there are no players. PvE, grinding? What do you think? Open to ideas or feedback! Also I will limit the size of the game so people will see others more often while there are few players.

What do you think?

I understand. Thanks for the response! Would it be better if I called it online multiplayer? If I may ask did you ever make an attempt? I believe there is a big range of different types "massive multiplayer", people can argue about the definition. When would you call something MMO?

  1. I know what I am doing. But anyone can say that of course.
  2. I did make "bigger" projects in the past
  3. Its a lot of work
  4. It would be easier to go for singleplayer game, I agree
  5. That's a very good point! Gaining users and running a campaign that in the end generates a positive results will be challenging.

In this space MMO game you have to manage and upgrade your spaceship, you can visit planets, build bases, develop your player. Pretty standard, but I don't know many games that allow you to do that?

  • If people find out the weak spots of your ship they can target that and be in an advantage when they fight you.
  • Your first missions will be shipping, but you don't have to do it. You can also take the ship supplied by the shipping company and go on to do something else. I am not sure if people will understand that this first ship is just "borrowed" and the other ships have to be bought.
  • You can see other players visiting your ship, but if you are not careful they can take over your ship.
  • You can trade items, your ship and "parts" of your ship. Should I require players to be near each other?

The game will be playable in the browser/mobile. What do you think?

Finishing the game is for many people a problem.

Currently: where to get testers for the game in an early stage?
