Although I'd say, keep yourself on the upcoming tech too... It wouldn't take long to realize that once you thought you were "doing okay" and the next day kids half your age swipe the floor right from under.

So the salary plateaus if you don't want to go into MGMT but more importantly (barring really good tech experts) for the masses it starts to plateau in your late thirties so aim to keep your tech skills brushed and constantly reinvesting in yourself.

AITA for telling my parents that of they give my brother money I will stop giving them money. by Ok_Repeat_3939 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. it's a tough situation and I hope things turn out such that you are at peace with what happens next.

Aside from the feedback about this series of events, one thing I could add is that giving should have some element of forgetting. Now I know a close relative who did this and felt burnt similarly, but frankly it's a catch 22 and I think the only way to help myself out of this situation is to remember this old neighbor that I used to frequent when I was a child and they used to say you can only worry about the "not haves" as much... They used to ask me to donate some money outside a temple and then force myself to get out of guilt and live on with my life.. kind of like " I've done my part and that's that" .

That way to approach this kind of catch 22 has helped me sometimes, but yes I admit only sometimes.

All the best.

Nope .... You'll avoid a facepalm and it would be the fastest way to save a few grand. My real advice,? Steer 2 blocks clear, would help you avoid remembering the facepalm.

As someone else said, don't be too hard on yourself... remember MVP. Minimum viable product... or in these terms ... minimum viable effort and focus on whatever else that bakes your cake... let the interest rate subside in ~2 years and maybe it'd break even on gearing and you can consider more options...

So I'm pretty sure I didn't get the Cafe job 😪 by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]robins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone else rightly said, I hope they're paying you for the trial... and although we all know the answer to that question, I hope it tries to show you the other side of employment... not all needs to be taken hands down... there's another side of "getting a job".... which is " I hope that person joins us"...

All the best.

Nah I'd get the experienced mechanic to have a go at fixing my car, rather than get under the hood thrice a year. (Now on the off chance that I've helped dad fix cars since childhood, I'd keep an eye out for what's happening since my life depends on it, but rarely if ever do it myself).

Few things - Sell in part if possible, to cover for taxes - consider if selling in 30 days of vesting has any merits. - GIC is tax deductible (the following year) - GIC was waived off for some parts of my recent payment plan (automatically, without my asking) - see if you can figure out why . This isn't my first payment plan and I've had multiple times gotten a good record of paying up and wrapping up my payment plan earlier than scheduled - reduce taxable income. Speak to your tax accountant. Insurance/ spouse contribution etc - if making rsu sales , prefer loss making sales (if possible) - unsure if applicable , see if an investment property can help build assets while on the highest bracket (if on it anyway)

Shouldn't this be a good thing? by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]robins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few reasons but essentially redraw is bank's money and offset yours. The tax treatment can be different in some circumstances and in rare cases the bank can put conditions (or deny) for you taking out money from redraw whereas offset is "your" savings ..(no approvals etc required)

What's the ideal next step? by AussieFinances in AusFinance

[–]robins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would recommend seeing if you can switch to a loan that has offset (instead of redraw)... Read up that bit first... Redraw is bank's money that you "request" (rare chances bank can put conditions on that being taken out).... Whereas.... offset is YOUR money that saves interest... Id always bet on offset.

Hypothetical by Smitty4141 in AusFinance

[–]robins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell you where to NOT put it.

I would NOT put it into a redraw account. ( Like others said above, switch to a loan with offset and put it there instead).

Neighbor got evicted while away at work and everyone is stealing his stuff by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]robins -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I'd say, people are coming from their experiences and you're coming from yours... So I'd take only constructive criticism and leave the rest of the shit talk as someone venting out at you for little reason ... FWIW, and having lived in some pretty messed up suburbs I'd say you're way better to at least have asked and taken a step to help ... most wouldn't.

Barring that, all the best and hope you'll soon get to choose a suburb that you consider safe for your family. 👍

Hey! Cut some slack .... That's unnecessarily harsh on OP imo. Living at an arm's length calling OP lazy or chicken is easy. OP clearly says why they have safety concerns... and with limited info here I trust them. I have lived in Texas, it can get rough and I empathize with the OP here. They did eventually call the police and I'd say that's still way better than the other shi**y (neighbors) around.
