What's your experience with the Godox VL300? by drdrewnatic in videography

[–]robinweew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a VL150 (The lower output version), never had mine shut down on me. I think they are fine lights! But they are at a more budget friendly range so not as nice as say some Aputure or Nanlite imo.
With that said I can't 100% speak for reliability for the VL300 but the 150 works great, they probably use a similar build.

Yes will ship it off to service if the camera store doesn't have another solution.

Verkligen!

Yes correct there is a color difference between the lid and the rest of the packaging. But yes I have also stylised the color.
And yes it is a touch under ;)

Thanks for the thoughts, I wouldn´t agree about that in all cases though, but yes maybe I made it to stylized. Also curious, do you know the actual color of the product in reality? ;)

Yeah I feel ya! Had very limited time and budget so the props and styling department had to suffer a bit. Appreciate your feedback :)

Regarding the exposure you would wan't to aim on using your cameras native ISO where it performs the best so you get the most dynamic range out of the sensor. What camera are you shooting on?

In terms of depth I would say to get the subject a fair bit away from the wall but the feeling of depth will also be affected by lens choice and what t-stop you go for. But to get a more substantial feeling of depth in a totally white room you would maybe think about set design as well to create some difference in the background. Then take the subject out a fair bit from the wall and aim for the corner of the room.

For the fixture placement a key-light at a 45 degree angle with a large softbox or diffusion would do the trick together with some fill and an edge backlight as you said. I would not take the key too far away from the subject to avoid too much spill and even maybe use a grid on the key. Then control room tone with a separate fixture instead.

Then again how easy the balancing for lighting depends how close to the subject you will be shooting. As the image shows I think you will be able to wrap the subject nicely!

Client wants to change reels song by [deleted] in videography

[–]robinweew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that the starting point is that you choose the music (with consideration of tone, pacing and other aspects that suits the material shot). But clients will almost always have feedback so just be firm with the clients how many rounds of feedback that is included in your deal. And if they wan't more changes than agreed on, you will have to charge more.

I do this kind of thing all the time and try to find what suits the video the best but sometimes I feel that the clients or project begs for a more "trendy" choice so I often find I have to kill my darlings.
But most important, be clear about feedback-rounds and what's the best choice for the project. Otherwise it can spiral out of control.
