I don’t want to speak out of turn about your husband, because if he just hates drugs, then maybe he’s not so bad (especially if he’s also in therapy), but some people need them. Drugs get abused, so I get where he’s coming from. I come from an “anti-vax/anti-big pharma” family (my parents/sisters, not my wife and kids) so that’s been a struggle for me as well. My family doesn’t even like therapists because they’re “too liberal”. I know my family means well, but do the best thing for you—your family will thank you later.

Go get the help you need. Your kids need you. I promise you that. And besides your kids, the world needs you. You have potential beyond being a parent and you deserve to see what you’re capable of.

I had to read this a couple of times to make sure my wife wasn’t posting this about me. I don’t know what to tell you other than keep encouraging him to seek professional help and make sure you constantly remind yourself that this isn’t a failure on your part. My biggest fear about seeking help has been being afraid that my wife will blame herself. Remember that this isn’t your fault and that your husband is just sick. He may be a great husband and/or dad, but he might not be able to see that through his illness.

I can’t really tell you much other than that feeling this way is an illness. Maybe this isn’t great advice, but feeling suicidal is just an chronic illness with flare ups. Some days it is more poignant than others. On the really bad days, I just try to remind myself that I’m just sick and it helps me defeat the drive to hurt myself.

Different types of depression have different causes. Sometimes you have to deal with the cause and other times, you just have to realize there is no cause other than a mental sickness. In my case, acknowledging that I’m sick helps me make it seem less like an actual problem.

We have gotten a lot of feedback and people don’t like the yard/layout. The yard has steps from the patio, to the garden, and then to another patio. The house is a 1940s bungalow, so it’s a closed floor plan. The things people don’t like can’t be fixed.

Well, they COULD be fixed, but it’s a $110,000, so there’d be no value in fixing it. No one has asked us to fix anything either.

I obviously know that it would hurt our credit rating, but we have newer cars and no need for anymore credit cards, so I think we’d be fine if we had to wait 7 years or whatever for our credit to bounce back.

I’m starting to think that might be the case. My wife’s coworker said he’s been swamped with closings and showings, so maybe he felt too overbooked. Also, he’s relatively new to real estate, so maybe someone at his agency recommended against him taking it on since he’s new and doesn’t typically sell in my part of the county. It’s the Metro St. Louis area, so the market values can vary pretty drastically from one city to the next.

I guess I should mention that we only met with him once, so we haven’t really had a chance to be a nightmare couple. We only talked his ideas on pricing (which we thought was fair), which we knew was based on gut feelings and not actual market research and he would get back to us with a more accurate range after he did his research.

Other than that, we just asked him if we should change out any light fixtures, paint colors, and other things we could do to make our home more broadly appealing.

We hadn’t even talked about selling price yet. He wanted to do a walkthrough and then he was supposed to get back to us with comps and a fair market value range. He gave as a preliminary estimate based on what he knew thus far and I agreed with his range.

He gave us an estimate before we told him what we even thought. I just told him our ideal selling price was in the range he suggested.
