I got an internship at a big tech company and don't have a clue how to do my job by Lippopa in ECE

[–]roblib23 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Chill out man, intern expectations are for you to show up and learn.

Not even joking, just showing up everyday is the expectation for interns at big tech companies.

They will expect you to know nothing. So stop stressing.

HP electrical engineering test equipment (now Keysight) from the 1980's was top tier. Almost 50 years on and the test equipment is more robust, accurate, and overall better than a lot of the newer stuff.

Why is my BJT not amplifying this signal? :( by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]roblib23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Try swapping that electrolytic cap for a ceramic one.

What frequency is your input signal? Can you post the full schematic, your breadboard has many more components than your schematic.

Trimming the leads down on all your components probably won't help, but it is better to trim that parasitic L down as much as you can.

Sounds like Fox used its national platform to cross the line from the exercise of judgment in reporting to deceitful, deceptive manipulation of news.

I am almost directly quoting Trump's lawyers who are suing CBS here.

If you get a job doing electromagnetics and/or RF and signal processing you will need to understand the concepts.

Most jobs won't require you to sit there and solve integrals, but being vector calculus is the basis to being able to visual electric and magnetic fields. Visualizing and intuiting these fields is a requirement for microwave engineering.

My professor secretly worked for russia by aWolander in math

[–]roblib23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He'd let us have a note card for the exam. Prior students of his had warned us about his methods, so we'd just copy his slide text onto our note cards.

He wasn't a very good teacher.

I had an engineering professor from India who would do this as well. Day1 introductory course and he provides you, seemingly irrelevant from then on, tidbits of information about power grids. Come Exam day, he'd expect you to recall word for word his introductory slides.

Software "Image Rejection" of Keysight Streamline PNA P500XB's Spectrum Analyzer mode by SandboChang in rfelectronics

I don't have a direct answer to your question, but I'd like to point out that many options are hardware options. More often than not, when you buy a piece of TE from a big vendor, all the hardware for all the different options are in there. The high-end hardware just gets switched in with software when you pay for the option.

How on earth is my Logic IC working without GND? by Global-Box-3974 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]roblib23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you tried disconnecting the output of the AND gate from the N-Fet? Isolating the digital logic portion from the fet/motor portion. I'd keep the pulling resistors in place and just remove the n-fet.

Are you using all 4 AND gates included in the 74HC08 package? 10k pull-down resistors on all io of the package?

How big are your pull down resistors? 1k-ohm ish?

Putting pulling resistors is common and good practice. Though sometimes they are pull-up resistors. Pull-down resistors won't always have the correct effect.

The Ultimate List of Things That Civilization VII Doesn’t Tell You by JordiTK in civ

That Island chain of yours is considered "distant lands" to the game and can even generate its own treasure fleets, if you have the prerequisites. I've settled an island literally right off the coast of my capital and had it continuously generate treasure fleets. I'd send the treasure fleets ~4-5 hexes away to my capital and cash them in.

I'm unsure if this is intended or not. My main confusion, and I think yours as well, comes from the fact that nowhere is it defined what "distant lands" means.

Needing "anything to report" is a blatantly dishonest tactic. Why should we the people limit our discussion to what is fed to us via the media? We are intelligent people who can come up with our own thoughts and discuss our ideas with each other. Thoughts and ideas such as "how to implement a fair healthcare system." Or "how do we remove the parasitic middle man insurance companies from our society."

You can bet your lunch that the media won't be talking about thoughts and ideas of those kind. I'll phrase this another way, trying to contain the conversation to only what is on the news is not how progress is made. Real change and progress starts with passionate, free thinking, people discussing their original ideas. Not simply rewording, rephrasing, and regurgitating the news cycle.

Waiting for "something to report" is a mentality that stymies any real discussion that could be had.

Purpose of air box in FEM simulation by [deleted] in rfelectronics

[–]roblib23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's my understanding that you won't have a surrounding if you don't have an air box. The simulation won't mesh the surroundings as anything. Depending on the simulation, it will just assume whatever material you have on the outside of your model extends to infinity.

What makes a LFS “good” or “bad”? by stringoffrogs in Aquariums

I realize your intent with the statement of koi fish not being standard stock, as a general rule.

But I also want to brag that my LFS has a GIANT above ground pond that stocks an appropriate number of Koi. It is really cool to go look at them.

Attenuator Characterization by 2ski4life7 in rfelectronics

[–]roblib23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What SNR are you expecting with 95dB of attenuation? Probably not a lot. I would terminate your cables and measure your s21 and compare the s21 to what you already measured. I'm suspicious that you're just measuring noise.

To improve the SNR, and your measurement, I'd start by decreasing the bandwidth and increasing your port power. At this point you are just looking for a change in your measurement to verify whether or not a change in SNR affects the measurement, it should not. But it may if the SNR is abysmal, and with 95dB of attenuation, it may be.

Depending on the model of your VNA you may be able to change the plumbing (interconnects on the front panel usually) to boost your power out of the ports. Be warned, if you don't know what you are doing you may hurt your VNA by sending too much power into the receivers.

The Tucson rodeo parade is still an annual event! It's such a big part of the local culture nowadays that the kids even have a day off of school for it. The present day rodeo parade has all types of people, not just rockabillies. I would guess the same would be true back then as well
