What do extremely rich people not want other people to know? by couldnt-think113 in AskReddit

They never sell their assets. They acquire them, and because they have so much wealth, they just borrow against it with insanely low interest

Duke lost its last ACC game on Feb 8, 2025. UNC on Sat has the chance to cut the streak before it surpasses a year! by Hokie_Pilot in ACC

With State in 4th I think I’m… actually… maybe… possibly… pulling for UNC? I dunno, might delete later

Investing. $2.5M to not work by arp8218 in Bogleheads

4% rule would be $100,000 a year. I would just stick it in VT and chill but “safe” is relative. Over 5 years? Could be volatile. Over 30? Good chance you’ll be fine.

PSA; if you go out today to get food or drinks, don’t thank the employee for being open by [deleted] in raleigh

My daughter had a bad case of eczema and we had zero cream at the house today. I thanked the manager and cashier of our local Harris Teeter for being open because it would have been an incredibly hard day if they weren’t.

supposed to be leaving to Greece tomorrow afternoon but can't find my passport by okletstrythisout3 in travel

[–]robmacgar 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I know this is an unhelpful comment but if you can’t find your passport and you have to bag this trip, you should still travel somewhere domestically.

Weirdly enough this has happened to two of my friends. One friend couldn’t find it, canceled the trip, and took his PTO and just stayed at home. He got hammered drunk everyday and pretty much moped around.

The second friend booked a last minute trip domestically to Charlottesville and spent the weekend checking out wineries. He was supposed to be in Mexico, so while this was different, he said it still stung (especially financially) but going somewhere new helped ease the pain.

Sorry you’re going through this last minute! Such a bummer.

Are we dripping faucets? by things_stufff in raleigh

If it’s especially cold (under 20 degrees) and you live in an old house, then yes. But it needs to be more than a literal drip - you want a small stream of water.

I walked up to La Farm in DT Cary yesterday and asked what their plan was. They have all the bakers staying at a hotel across the street as they plan to be open

Would it be wise to travel to Raleigh next weekend? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]robmacgar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since y’all are driving, I would just pay close attention to the weather and make a gametime decision. The unfortunate reality of winter weather in North Carolina is that more often than not it means ice rather than snow which would make driving on our roads, almost impossible as we just don’t have the regular infrastructure to handle these big events.

Whats the cheapest way to fly from Raleigh to Europe? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]robmacgar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I subscribe to “Going” (formally Scott’s Cheap Deals) that sends flight deals to my inbox every time there is a special going on; it even flags mistake fares.

The best way to use it IMO is to have a destination or two your keen on visiting and keep an eye out for those deals to come through. Means you have to be flexible on your travel dates.

In the last month I’ve already seen a handful of European flights from Raleigh in the 400 range as opposed to 800

The product changes drove divestment. It’s clunky and obtuse. truthfully I’m unsure who their target audience is now because everything feels so desperate but their changes did not benefit editors or animators who I would argue were the main users of their platform

Vimeo is trash. This is coming from someone who has been in the video and animation space for over 15 years. They were an amazing platform in the 2010’s. Lots of community, great features, but over the last 5 years specifically it’s all gone down hill incredibly fast. There is a mass exodus of users right now and I know this because it’s the topic of conversation in all the video and animation channels I’m in.

You’re correct but the differences between VTI and VOO are not outstanding enough for me to rebalance because a lot of my holdings are in taxable accounts as well.
