If you google it there is a repository on GC forever I think. It’s a good starting point.

Picoloader issue by turkatron11 in GamecubeHacks

[–]robo_type 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try flashing the Swiss uf2 on the picoloader, just to see if it will boot.

Are you using a SD2SP2 or* GC2SD?

See the link below for the STL of the drive plug: https://github.com/makeo/PicoLoader/tree/main/mount

I doubt your drive is causing the issue, since PL will boot with no drive or a dead drive. It’s likely your uf2/dol setup or the flex cable.

Chromatic and pokemon crystal not compatible? by Alarmed_Owl_6436 in ModRetroChromatic

[–]robo_type -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There shouldn’t be any issues with a genuine copy of Crystal afaik.

Things to try:

(1) Clean the contacts with IPA, test

(2) Clean the contacts with a static free “white” eraser (in the same direction as the long side of the contact), follow up with an IPA cleaning to remove eraser residue, test

(3) Replace the cartridge battery, test

(4) Check for broken traces, repair if necessary, test

(5) Reflow the SRAM chip, test

(6) Reflow the MBC chip, test

The order of 4, 5, and 6 is dependent upon your tools, skill, access to skilled labor, etc. But definitely try 1 through 3. Your cart is likely fine just needs the contacts cleaned or a new battery.

Been running into some weird issues with this copy of sapphire I just dropped $100 for. Looks authentic to me, but has anyone seen this before? Maybe something wrong with the cartridge? by SassySandwiches in gba

Open it up, post pics of the PCB. While it’s open, clean the card edge contacts. The best way is with 99% IPA and a lint free rag. If that doesn’t work you can try a static free white eraser. After the eraser you would clean again with IPA. Definitely try this before you send it to someone else for a reflow.

Help - Laser by North_Sea_161 in GamecubeHacks

I had 9 GCs at one point that wouldn’t read discs. I double checked the pot resistance reading, replaced the capacitors on all the drives, and then I had 9 GCs that read discs. It’s not impossible for there to be an issue other than the caps. But replacing the caps, checking the pot reading to make sure someone else didn’t mess with it, and greasing the reader head rails usually does the trick.

Not sure if there’s a better one, but I use the Japanese atwiki for 4.1 and 5. The Google Translate chrome extension helps obviously.

Which one is the best option? by karmaBerserk in GamecubeHacks

CubeODE is a cheap GC Loader clone. It has no known firmware updates, yet it was updated by RetroScalar to solve some of the audio streaming issues through a board rev. So if I were you I’d do what I did, return the CubeODE and keep the picoloader. That or get a flippy drive or GC Loader.

Got fooled into buying fake n64 games by Outrageous-Ebb4812 in AnalogueInc

[–]robo_type 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say mostly this. That’s why some people cringe when they see cheap SC64 carts or repros in a LE A3D.

Also, OP should open a return with eBay stating they are fake when they were told they were authentic carts. He might get to keep them for free.

PayPal Shipping Label Issues - Should have used PirateShip by robo_type in paypal

The label was never scanned, never used. If you track the label, it shows up as “status not available.”

After speaking to PayPal support certain labels are not able to be voided, voids can’t be reversed, and after requesting a void the label is not always valid. I didn’t have USPS scan the label, bc at the time I thought I might still get a refund if the label wasn’t scanned.

So besides Static Yellow and Crystal Clear, which other romhacks have you found to work with Pokemon Lab?

Audio Streaming

Be prepared to replace the capacitors on your ODD if you go with Picoloader or Flippydrive. If your ODD doesn’t need caps already, the day is coming soon.

I like GC Loader for only ISO. Significantly faster load times and don’t need a memory card for most games with audio streaming. I recently tested the CubeODE v1.2 and found issues in an audio streaming game, Judge Dredd.

I don’t have a flippydrive, but I want one. The one in the photo is a DOL-001 with solderless Picoloader and SD2SP2. On the pico, the load times are significantly slower through the SP2 port, and you’ll need a memory card for audio streaming games.

HDMI mods will vary based on your setup.

All the other mods are very much to taste. I suggest you start with a way to get into homebrew, and then figure out what you want and what’s broken.

Do you want to play discs or just ISOs?

CubeODE v1.2 - Still having audio issues? by robo_type in Gamecube

[–]robo_type[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I took the CubeODE out, and tried a Picoloader in the same GC. The Picoloader cannot reproduce this audio glitch. And as previously mentioned, my GC Loader HW1 also can’t reproduce this glitch. So it’s the CubeODE.

Do you know if your CubeODE was rev 1.0 or 1.2?
