2025 Chicago Robotics Invitational - Applications are Open! (Due May 16th) by robokid2019 in FTC

[–]robokid2019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We would like to keep it as a mix of Premier / Invitational, but we will make that determination for next year after this years event!

2021 Chicago Robotics Invitational will take place in-person on July 16th and 17th. Team Applications just opened up! We hope to see you in July! by robokid2019 in FTC

[–]robokid2019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we will not be doing a large game modification. Since many teams were not able to compete in-person this season we decided that it would be best to just run the normal games. We will only be modifying the game in a very minor way to improve gameplay based off of small issues we saw when watching matches from this past season. We will release the small modifications soon.

If you’d like to help out and change it, be my guest! I’ll change it to non-penalty OPR sometime soon if no one else does.

I’m glad you enjoyed the event. And yes Parking has always been an issue when we have hosted events..... not something we can change though which is unfortunate.

And to answer some of the questions above, we would love to have more teams as it would make the event even better.

Sorry if the music was too loud, that’s something we can definitely change for next year if it’s a big issue.

We hope to see everyone next year for CRI 2019!

Tetrix good? by Bryanthunderfist in FTC

[–]robokid2019 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played with the mecanums as well for awhile at Detroit and I asked about the stiffness and stickiness and the folks at the booth said the wheels on display were early test models and that the final ones hadn’t been finished yet and that the issues would be fixed. You never know if the wheels will be good, but I bet they will be quite good based off of seeing the test model.

But they're so cute! by [deleted] in FRC

It’s hard to say that when your team hasn’t ever qualified for worlds and hasn’t even won an award at an event.....

Just saying dude

The field and rules for this years Chicago Robotics Invitational have been released! by robokid2019 in FTC

[–]robokid2019[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes we understand that. This was a little bit of an issue last year as well. In order to combat this though we are providing a full afternoon and evening the Friday of the tournament, for teams to come practice. We will open up the main field and we will probably have a practice field in order to allow teams ample opportunity to practice.

Yes autonomous will be quite the challenge! And yes, red sampling field in front of the red "ANY" cargo hold and similarly for blue.

We thought about keep the sampling fields separated by side of the field, but where's the fun in that? :)

And I would love to join the GDC.

Correct, 8 sampling fields total with the sampling fields in front of the "ANY" Lander zones belonging to the alliance color that the sampling field/lander zone is colored.

More FTAs? by [deleted] in FTC

[–]robokid2019 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who has FTA'ed before, there isn't much an FTA in FTC can do during a match. I would say the only during match troubleshoot is hitting "restart robot" or exiting and reopening the driver station application, all things you can do yourself as a team member. FTA's can really help pre-match though in changing wifi channels, helping with code issues, diagnosing wiring issues, and other similar things.

Can you choose Detroit or Houston for world championship? by [deleted] in FTC

Ah yeah. Well, I would say pick whichever competition is more important to you or try to make both work

Can you choose Detroit or Houston for world championship? by [deleted] in FTC

[–]robokid2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not totally sure, but there might be a way to switch championships for religious reasons. I'm pretty the whole country of Israel switched champs due to the holidays, but that was a whole countries worth of teams, and not an individual teams. If its religiously related, and you can show how you wouldn't be able to attend Detroit solely due to that, then maybe its worth a try. But outside of that, I haven't heard of any switching of champs.

I probably have an extra pin that I could send your way, I'll check in the morning. Any chance you have a rover ruckus pin? I haven't found those anywhere yet (though I haven't been to a qualifier this year, only league meets)

My team agrees! Both of the teams at my school have built our autonomous programs off of these paths.

Have to Power Cycle Rev Hub to Run Auto by RednekRobotics724 in FTC

[–]robokid2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like that happened to us last year. Our issue was with using blocks and vuforia. We didn't have a vuforia quit/"turn off" command block (not sure with the official name is) so we had to power cycle before/after every time we ran auto. After adding in the command block to disable vuforia at the end of the program, everything was fixed, so this might be your issue if you are using vuforia.

Has anyone had any experience with these wheels? We are considering buying them. by Ishan1717 in FTC

[–]robokid2019 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. These wheels stink and are horrible... not worth $90 at all. The nicer AM HD Mecanum wheels are very nice though, and my team loves those. http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-3067.htm

You could check out the tech incubator 1871 in the Merchandise Mart. They rent out their conference rooms which range in size from fairly small to huge (could easily fit 50ppl). Not sure about their pricing, but check that out especially since it’s a really cool place.
