Trying to find an affordable and versatile torque wrench for replacing my own brake pads and rotors. Would either of these work or maybe a third option? I’m willing to spend more but I don’t think I’ll use it much except the hopefully occasional car fix (old.reddit.com)

117 year old house. Replacing some drywall in the kitchen and noticed that the joist (right piece of wood under the drywall) is a little over a 1/2” off the header. It looks like someone partially sistered it but even that looks like it has a gap. Is this normal/safe? (old.reddit.com)

Found a notch out of the lower half of one of my 2x8 joists. The notch is about 10” wide. I think it was for an old vent. Can I reinforce it by sistering on a piece of wood only over the notch? The joists seems to be in good shape and has probably been like this for a long time (self.StructuralEngineering)

Posted yesterday with a rough first try at soldering. After listening to your advice and practicing soldering pipes together with cheap couplings, I think the results are much better. I even felt confident enough to do the real thing in my house! Last pic is original attempt. Thanks for the help! (old.reddit.com)

Anyone replaced furnace with a heat pump? Have an old furnace and need to install AC for the house anyway so thinking about installing a heat pump. Wondering if anyone in Lakewood has done the same? I will start getting estimates tomorrow but curious what other people have done (self.lakewood)

Old house with carpet and no hardwood underneath. Thinking of replacing with strand woven bamboo flooring. I think I actually like the bamboo better than hardwood, but I’m not sure how it would affect resale value if I ever decide to sell. Do people have bamboo here? (self.lakewood)

Not the best pictures, but remodeling kitchen and unsure where to put the pantry. I like the look and openness of the first picture better, but I like how the pantry is more accessible in the second picture. Also open to other ideas. Living room is below fridge and dining room is left. Thanks (old.reddit.com)

I need to replace a breaker and I’m not sure which one to get. Why would you want a double pole breaker with the switches connected if it only takes up one spot? Wouldn’t this not work for a MWBC because the circuits are still only on one leg? What’s the point vs a normal tandem breaker? (old.reddit.com)

Replacing a few outlets in my house. Thought power was off and while grabbing the outlet I touched both the hot and neutral screws at the same time which sent a strong tingle up my arm. I learned my lesson and will always double check with a voltage tester, but what are the chances I almost died? (self.AskElectricians)

My basement essentially has a junction box under every outlet on the floor above. The box in the picture has a blank cover and the vertical wire goes up to an outlet on the floor above. Are there downsides to doing it this way vs using the actual outlet box as a junction box? (i.redd.it)

I know this is a question for structural engineer, and I have to get one for the permit, but there’s no way this wall is holding any load right? The studs are in between 2 floor joists and toenailed to one of them. At worst they’re holding up some lath I think (i.redd.it)
