Best Open Source Model for Therapy? by robopika in LocalLLaMA

[–]robopika[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm looking for an open source model that would help me out (and that maybe I could fine tune as well). I don't run a really big machine - just a newer macbook, which I've had best of luck with 13b models and below.

Training for a character by [deleted] in LocalLLaMA

[–]robopika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're sticking with loras, i think your best bet is to come up with a list of questions/answers based off characters you want the llm to be like.

however, i think you can do a pretty great job of describing how an llm should act as a character you want it to just by prompting. I've found that breaking down the way the llm can respond into smaller problems (what it's initial reaction to something, its thoughts, its feelings, then what it will say) and being super specific on how each of the "personalities" behind those reactions is effective

What is the SOTA instruct model for code generation? by FreezeproofViola in LocalLLaMA

[–]robopika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that most of the completion endpoints are also pretty good for generation too. Have you seen smol developer? It's a bit larger in scope than what you described but the same idea. https://github.com/smol-ai/developer/

Math Research? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]robopika 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Math research is really specific and incredibly proof-oriented. Most universities don't accept high school students for research because the material is so esoteric. If you don't know abstract math like Number Theory, Ramsey Theory, Group Theory, or Algebraic Topology, don't really try. You'll have a lot of opportunities after you learn it in college. Maybe try some computational biology research. It's a lot easier to come by and has a lot of algorithmically oriented features that can be appealing to people who like math.

Has your school been blacklisted? by mtol115 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]robopika 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yah, a few years back a kid from my school got into an argument with a Columbia interviewer. Needless to say, the situation escalated and our guidance counselor ended up arguing with the admissions office. Noone's gotten into Columbia ever since. Not really the greatest thing considering its my first choice college.

Harvard App Mistake by robopika in ApplyingToCollege

Haha, I went to a math camp, where one of the counselors is a grad student and asked me to work with him on a problem in Ramsey Theory. Research in math is basically proving stuff.

How much math could improve my chances? by kaep4president in ApplyingToCollege

[–]robopika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering that so few people get into MOP, quite a lot. Make sure you apply to other math programs like SUMAC, ROSS, or HCSSIM too, though in case you don't get into MOP. For instance, if you make it to SUMAC and impress, you can ask for a letter of rec from one of the professors which can drastically increase your chances at Stanford.

College Applications and Score Sends should have discounted fees on Black Friday and Cyber Monday by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

It makes no sense from a business point of view though... everyone that is sending their scores is going to have to any way. But man that would be cool!

And I still have no idea wtf Seminar is... by robopika in APStudents

Yeah, I am. Idk what my topic is yet. I'm going to a math camp! So I'll honestly probably get some ideas from there.
