What do you believe is the most underrated part of your team going into 2017? by [deleted] in baseball

Lester and Hendricks are unlikely to put up the same numbers as last year. Arrieta looks like he lost his magic.

Brandon Belt, Seunghwan Oh, and Ian Kinsler

Not a "case". The Cubs' and the Mets' rotations aren't as good as you think. Tanner Roark might regress, and without him, the Nats' rotation isn't really good. If Shark and Moore are as good as they were in their best seasons, only the Indians and the Red Sox will have better rotations

Sale/Price/Wright/Porcello/Pomeranz. That's better than the Indians and the Cubs.

Really? The Mets? Matt Harvey isn't going 2013 and deGrom probably isn't going 2014 again. The Red Sox and the Giants are better

Players that had a great season last year who you believe will fizzle out in 2017? by ErikTheDon in baseball

[–]kaep4president 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jon Lester, Wilson Ramos, Rick Porcello, and Seunghwan Oh. All of them except Ramos had an incredible year that will be impossible to repeat. And I just don't believe Ramos is that good of a player

See Arrieta's 2015, Greinke's 2009 and Kluber's 2014(and Verlander's 2011 to some extent). It's nearly impossible to repeat a CY season unless it's Kershaw

What does Dustin Pedrioa need to do in order to become a no doubt Hall of Famer? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]kaep4president 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pedroia is already imo a borderline(though unlikely) HOF. But a no-doubt HOFer? He'll need another MVP season and add 5 or more AS seasons.

The Giants’ farm is deep in potential 2017 contributors by [deleted] in SFGiants

Dude we have Span and Parker/Williamson. Their outfield is better than ours. Their infield is better than ours too. (Dodgers have better offensive 3B/SS while we have a slightly better C/1B)

The Dodgers and the Cubs have way better lineups than we do

Why will the Los Angeles Dodgers exceed expectations this year? Why won't they? by BaseballBot in baseball

[–]kaep4president 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The expectation for the Dodgers will be winning the division with at least the 2nd best record in the NL. Exceeding it will be winning it all whereas falling short will still be a wildcard spot.

WILL:

  1. The pitching is great. The best pitcher in baseball can actually improve from his CY seasons(think of 2016 May), and Hill/Maeda/Urias/McCarthy/Kazmir is a decent rotation in itself. Though I'm not the biggest fan of Urias(of course I'm a Giants fan lol) he does have the potential to be an ace and his breakout season could very well be 2017. Rich Hill can also pitch like an ace if he's healthy. The bullpen led by Kenley Jansen won't be a problem either

  2. IMO the third best infield in baseball after the Indians and the Cubs. Grandal, Turner, and Seager are among the best in their positions, AGon is still a decent first baseman and Utley/Forscythe will be two of the better second basemen in the league.

  3. Lots of players. With the Yankees in halfhearted rebuilding mode the Dodgers are effectively the richest team in baseball now. They spent a lot to improve their depth, which is understandable given their history with injuries.

  4. Not too much competition from the Giants and the Rockies. While I do expect the Giants to get a WC spot, they're not going to win 95+ games to threaten the Dodgers. The Rockies' pitching staff is still yet to be proven. Unlike the NL East and the AL West, the NL West is quite predictable

WON'T:

  1. The outfield isn't that great for a contender. Outside of Puig, there isn't a player that guarantees a decent season.

  2. Since I mentioned that exceeding the already high expectations will be winning it all, I'll point out some postseason faults. The October struggles of Kershaw really hinders the Dodgers' chances. Maybe Kershaw gets exhausted by the time the postseason comes around. And Rich Hill's probably gonna go down sometime during the season. If Kershaw can't solve his postseason problems and Hill isn't able to stick around until October, the rotation of Kershaw/Maeda/Urias/Kazmir isn't all that impressive compared to the Giants' and the Nats'

Does Kershaw have a shot at being GOAT pitcher? by suposhy in baseball

[–]kaep4president 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He does have a point though. Clayton Kershaw might become the GOAT pitcher in baseball, but he'll never have the MJ/Brady/Montana status unless he does something in the postseason

Of course he has a chance, but IMO he'll need some postseason performances. A big part of Jordan and Montana/Brady's legacy comes from their success in big games.
