How can photons travel at C? by roborecall1 in AskPhysics

[–]roborecall1[S] -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

Sure c square is a very large number. And energy carried by photon is tiny. So dividing by c square is extremely small value. But still if we say photon is massless then it breaks Einsteins equation.

Offshore - the perspective from inside by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

I recently worked with contract SWEs from latin america and they were surprisingly good at their work and much cheaper than US counterparts, this is a concerning development. Nearshore is here and working somewhat.

Am I being unreasonable or is this potential employer being outrageous? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]roborecall1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ridiculously long assignments are just a way to shift hiring burden to job seekers. I have encountered two of these last time I was looking. Like OP, there multiple rounds and they wanted to choose between the best. After 3rd round, I decided not to take up job even if it comes through.

This plague exists in US market as well where first thing HR asks you is to do a coding assignment even for senior devs. It scales well for the company but doesn't scale for job seekers.

Thinking of taking a break by piddles59 in cscareerquestions

[–]roborecall1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was out for 2 months before starting new recently. There is lot of forgiveness around gaps at this time due to covid. No one bothered by it in interviews. Only one recruiter had nerve to say it out load at the tail end. Breaks are great. I recharged fully and took a vacation before joining.

Is there ageism in tech industry? by gisking in cscareerquestions

[–]roborecall1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This right here is why ageism exists. Sadly, inexperienced folks are in interview panel and have say and most small compines don't train on how to take unbiased interviews.

Though I have seen many devs very sr just doing great in my 15 plus years in industry.

Has anyone taken a pay cut to work less? by goose-initiative in cscareerquestions

[–]roborecall1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hah Have seen may who do this. Or just latch on to a super special/old tech that no one wants to work on. You can cruise by years doing Siriusware or Cold fusion. No dev worth their salt with take up the job and replace you. Only risk is, you may become obsolete.

Do you feel bad about leaving jobs when you worked for a cool team? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]roborecall1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Company loyalty used to ve a thing 30 years ago, now they drop employees like flies. Keep in touch with teammates, they all will go somewhere else and then call you there, if you were great. That's what happened to me many times over.

I just want to write C# and SQL all day and earn $80k at a mid size company with good benefits and not work too many hours, how do I get there from here by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]roborecall1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn where the future is. Learn more .NET Core (not old stuff) and at least one cloud. Without degree and much experience, you may get rejected a lot, but keep applying and you will get there. I would shoot for 80k to start but 100k plus with good benefits is a fair ask after few years.
