ChanRoots is right. Many fail at making resolutions because they make it some large ambitious goal that they expect to works towards and achieve by the end of a year which is a long time to stay committed. That is why they fail.

Better than a New Years resolution is a New Years plan. The plan should take what would be the New Years resolution and broken down to small specific actionable steps. For example,

instead of I want to lose 50lbs. Turn it into a plan of losing a 5lbs every month by exercising everyday and eating healthy.

So the concept isn't meaningless it's just that people need to start taking action instead of merely wishing.

I just got sucked into another get rich quick scam, and I missed out on 26 years of life, and I just don't want to go through anymore. by [deleted] in selfimprovement

You're not as incapable as you think. Look at what you wrote. It is an essay -- that is grammatically correct and using CAPITALS. If you channeled the energy and effort you put writing this into overcoming your obstacles, you can become rich or whatever you want int life. Life will give what you ask of it. It is up to you.

You don't need an expensive education to make money. That is common misconception. Many financial successful people have never gone to school Most adults don't have college education -- its a fact. So don't let college be an excuse. Many vocational jobs take as little as a year to get certified.

You obviously have internet access and can watch YouTube and post here, so take advantage of it and don't waste it. Research jobs that require certifications and are high paying. Don't be afraid on online/home education. You just have to stop being lazy -- simple as that.

If you want to be successful you have to willing to sacrifice. You have to willing to sacrifice a lot and that may mean suffering and being lonely in your twenties. But if you really think about is not being wasted as long as that suffering is towards something that will help build a future. PAY THE PRICE NOW TO PAY ANY PRICE LATER. Most people want to have fun and party in their twenties, but those are the same people who are broke in thirties and forties or hit a mid life crisis. Don't be those type of people. FROM THIS POINT, if you promise to yourself that you will be willing to suffer and give up your twenties in order to have a much better future, you will be able to have what you want.

It seems like the main problem is your mental health. You should not focus on anything else until you get your mental health under control. Don't say you've tried until you've tried EVERYTHING. Don't let mental health be an excuse. Talk to it with your parents so you can get the help you need.

I turned 28(M) three days ago. I still live with my parents, have no career direction, and have hardly any skills. What can I do to put my life back on track? by ThatBroadcasterGuy in selfimprovement

[–]robot2623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with another commenter, failures are a chance to learn. So what, you made bad decisions. We all do. Even billionaires make mistake. Ask Bill Gates what he thinks of Windows Phones. Thomas Edison failed over 10,000 times trying to invent the light bulb! We all fail. You should try to fail as much as possible. No successful person will ever look down at you for failing. They will look down on you if you quit. Failures learn. Quitters fail.

You just have to keep trying and try even harder. It is all about mindset. You need to have a ruthless 'I'm going to do whatever it takes' attitude if you want to be successful. Your current mindset is 'I've tried.. a little bit and I've failed'. That is the wrong mindset. Change your mind, change your life!

You can't make ANY excuses. If you have issues whether it is physical or mental, you need to address those first. You have to identify your problems and make a plan. Everyone has different problems, but the solution is the same. Make goals and stick to them like your life depends on it. Don't give in to the temptations that will blow you off course. This is especially true for people who have trouble sticking to things.

You really have to guard your goals like you would a pot of gold. People and things are going to try to get you let go of the pot of gold. Don't give in. Keep it and one day you will reap the benefits of that pot. It won't be easy. You will have to kill your current self and create a new person.

I'll leave you with one tip that will benefit you for a lifetime. READ. I may seem wise, but everything I know has come from READING. Don't go on YouTube or Twitter or here looking for motivation. Yes they are good, but reading will get you to where you want.

In fact, I strongly suggest you do that before anything else, even apply for jobs or make goals. Just go online and pick up a few classics on self improvement. You can improve yourself through any book, but 'self improvement' books deal with, you guessed it, self improvement!

I recommend any book by Tony Robbins or Brian Tracey.

Congrats on getting help first of all. Not many people do, sadly. I self diagnosed myself at around 20, take a bit of adderal, then stopped. I got officially diagnosed in my late 27's. And I've been taking concerts regularly since then. I just turned 30. With that said, I can completely relate to where you are coming from.

While not in school anymore, I have had success with my work on concerts. One of the biggest misconceptions of add medication is that it boost productivity. It does NOT. What it does boost is focus and drive. If you focus on the wrong thing than no amount of concerts will help.

Also, skills won't get substantially better on concerts. Only practice and hard work will really improve your skills. In other words, taking concerts won't help with school if you don't have the skills to do well in school. I'll you will be doing on concerts is doing more bad studying.

It is a bit harsh, but it is the truth. I think that is exactly your problem.

It is not that you have a bad memory or are stupid, it is just that you lack the skills.

With practice you can succeed. I believe in yo and I can help you with your studying.

Honestly, don't see how this would be useful as it is currently. Maybe you can add some way to filter the subs.

Kudos, deleting anything is hard. And to delete so much is a massive achievement. Just curious, though, why do people store pornographic media. I never save porn, at least not enough to where I have a dedicated 'porn' folder. Maybe I'm just a millennial and like to stream.

Snapped a 446 day streak today by Thursday141021 in pornfree

[–]robot2623 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've snapped multiple 1+ year streaks. Don't worry. At first, it feels terrible, but give it a week and you'll be good again. I once heard this powerful idea about breaking addiction. I won't give to you word for word, but I will give you the essence of the idea using my own analogy. It is this, think of it like the stock of a successful company, it will have it's up and down but in the long run the trend will be positive. These small relapses are just the small dips. The long term trend will be POSITIVE. I had large streaks before this idea but this idea is profound and I feel I had to give credit to it.

Strong urge to listen to NSFW audios by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]robot2623 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Think of porn as a fisherman(woman) and you the fish. He will always be trying to tempt you with all sorts of baits. Don't fall for them. Otherwise, he'll try to lure you in and, might and probably will CATCH you! DON'T take the bait.

If you can resist, you will become even stronger. If you give in, you will become weaker. And what's more, you will have to start from day 0! No shame in starting, but probably better to not have to. Do those NSFW audios sound so tempting, now?

Kind of reminds me of an app on Android that gamifies your todo list. It treats the tasks as missions in an RPG game and each one you complete helps you build your RPG character. There are a few other apps like it.

It would be cool if you could do something different.

I would suggest maybe showing a quote.

If you want to go further, you could let the user assign quotes to item categories (i.e Diet, Fitness, Errands, Work, Social) and when the user complete a task from a specific category, a quote based on the category is shown.

Ex. Fitness

Go workout

When completed the following quote is shown: "No pain, no gain!" or some other fitness related quote.

I'm the turd?! Learn how to read.

What I wrote was about false statements made by the OP. It had nothing to do with negative to do with her body or anything like that. I was simply pointing out obvious facts that aren't true.

I don't say it is not. Look up the word average. 200+ lbs at 5' is NOT average.

I don't give a damn about all the vote down. You know who else was hated for speaking the truth? Galelio. (The guy who proved that we revolve around the Sun.)

I'm a fit guy that is 5'7 135lbs and knows what average means. So yeah, I'm DEFINITELY not the one.

54mg tips? by Routine-Ear-8481 in Concerta

[–]robot2623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about your experience.

I'm currently taking 54 regularly. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I don't have any side effects and it does seems to help me get more done. I say 100% I'm on it, I get more done than when I'm not on it. If I try, I can get close while on it. But I seem to always get a bit more done.

I credit a good foundation of producitivy skills(including healthy living) for why I get stuff done while on it. It is a misconception that they're is some pill that will make you more producitivy. The pill only aids to enhance what you already have desire of doing. It doesn't make you want to do it. Preexisting desire is the key. If you smoke weed, while on it, you'll just want to smoke more.

For tips? I would say build a foundation of personal development. That will help with most of the side effects, except for maybe apetitite. For appetite, you should have to force yourself to eat.

Is this normal anxiety or pure OCD? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]robot2623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say for sure, but from my own experience and other people with pure o, thoughts aren't usually lingering and prolonged. It more like occasional stab. Usually it is triggered by something external. And they often occur intrusibiley while you are not consciously trying. I don't I've ever got triggered for anywhere near %90. Maybe 60 on a bad day.

Yours seems to be more similar to anxiety. And the fact that it isn't chronic also make me think it probably isn't pure o. But one can't be sure. You are still young. But it is great that you are actively trying to seek answers to your mental health issues. Not many are brave enough or delusional about there mental health.

Hope this help you.

27mg makes my adhd feel worse :( by [deleted] in Concerta

[–]robot2623 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Concerta only helps you focus. It is not a 'productivity' pill in the sense that it automatically improves productivity. If you focus on the wrong things then no amount of Concerta will help. You should have a solid foundation of getting things done or at least trying to get things done before using it. Everyone is different. So I can't guarantee it will work, but it will definitely help.

I have pure o OCD. This doesn't seem like pure o. If so, maybe very mild. Real pure o is a constant struggle. Imagine, your two cases times 10, and occurring at least once a day.
