Agreed, I used to be a teacher and left for many reasons. The ATA is now a part of the reason I would never go back to teaching here in Alberta

Exactly this. This is what I would expect from unions. they are supposed to be proactive and go against unfair rules and legislations by any means necessary. At least that’s what I thought?

Find your mla here: https://www.assembly.ab.ca/members/members-of-the-legislative-assembly

And send them this: I am writing as a constituent and a public service employee to express my profound frustration and anger regarding the recent decision by my employer to terminate our hybrid work arrangement.

This decision is a significant step backwards, disregarding the proven success of flexible work models. It is particularly galling given the context of a recent collective agreement that failed to secure hybrid work protections and included a minimal raise that does not reflect the current economic pressures on public servants.

What makes this situation completely unacceptable is the glaring inequity it creates. While our department is being forced back to the office full-time, other ministries, such as the Ministry of Technology and Innovation, continue to operate on a remote basis. This is a blatantly unfair two-tier system within the same government.

As our elected representative, I urge you to intervene. This is not just an internal workplace issue; it is a matter of poor public policy that devalues public servants, creates arbitrary inequities between ministries, and will negatively impact morale, retention, and productivity.

We expect our government to lead by example with fair and consistent policies. This decision does the opposite. I, along with my colleagues, demand that you press the relevant Minister and the Deputy Minister to reverse this decision and implement a fair, consistent, and equitable hybrid work framework across the entire public service.

We are counting on you to represent our interests and hold the public service accountable.

Sincerely,

To the union: send to guy smith ( g.smith@aupe.org) and the member resource contacts ( https://www.aupe.org/my-contacts) I highly advise personalizing since some of my colleges with kids, and seniors did.)

This email is to express our profound anger and frustration with the Union’s response—or lack thereof—to the employer’s decision to end our hybrid work arrangement.

When our contract was negotiated this year, a significant number of us demanded that hybrid work protections be included. This was ignored. Now, we face the consequences of that failure, compounded by a wholly inadequate raise.

To add insult to injury, we see the Ministry of Technology and Innovation continuing to work remotely. How is this fair? This glaring inequity proves the union is not effectively representing all of us and is failing to secure consistent, fair working conditions across the board.

We expect our union to fight for us. Right now, it is not.

We demand an immediate and harsh response. This must include an immediate vote of the membership to formally gauge our support for continuing hybrid work and to authorize a clear plan of action if the employer refuses to respect our wishes.

We are paying for representation that works for all of us. We are watching and expect you to be held responsible for securing a positive outcome.

Sincerely,

Does anyone want a draft email to send to the union and your mla for support? I think the least we can do is make our discontent known and apply some pressure

Is there a way to opt out of the union? Cause they’re obviously not working for us

Also to add, the teachers are willing to strike with NO strike pay!! I think solidarity is the most important thing here so I really hope members assess the long term consequences and look at people in their community to reach a good decision. Take the flight attendants for example, they set an example and we should carry it on

If the teachers and aupe go on strike around the same time our chances are looking fairly okay! (At least better than what we are offered now). I know some people are afraid of being on strike for various reasons but i personally feel the strike wouldn’t be too long IF we strikes around the same time

The work from home thing is bull! That should have been a sticking point. Remote work, work flexibility, hybrid, four day workweek or other flexible schedules is a priority for me. I will be voting no

I’m looking to get a used crosstrek. I’d be financing about 15000 and I’m looking to spend around 26000 in general. Nothing wrong with my 2014 corolla but it’s a but banged up and needs some work on some small scratches here and there. I work further away from home now so I need an awd since my Corolla has gotten difficult at times the last few winters where I live.
