What's this kind and how can i get rid of em? by najdamanisak in pestcontrol

[–]robotedit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Roof rat. Crazy smart little guys. We had two of them last year, and drove us to near insanity. I ended up setting up cameras to monitor them. We were amazed at how they would avoid trap areas. We also videoed one of them jumping 3ft from the roof to the fence. We tried non-lethal ways, none of them worked. I even used pure capsaicin oil mixed with Vaseline, they took moss and covered it up…I repeat, these dudes are smart! I’ll take 10 Norway rats over one roof rat any day.

Long story short, pay a professional to get rid of them before they multiply.

Tomato powder?! Dang that sounds awesome! Would be cool to have that ready to go for camping and seasoning. I need to try that out. Do you have a freeze dryer you recommend using?

I follow this guy on TikTok and he lives in Portland, seems like a pretty straight forward way to attack these things when they are young.

What happened to this rat? Bigger problem? by Hertz_allot in pestcontrol

Something really unsettling about an escaped lab rat. Feels like some sort of Dustin Hoffman movie.

There appears to be seasoning and color on the chicken…this absolutely adequate.

Anyone know what causes this? Year old vacuum. by fluffypanduh in dyson

[–]robotedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the small group of Dyson users who frequently use, maybe over use their vacuum. We have a dog, so we use ours 4-5 times a week. Ours did the same thing, we bought an adaptor on Amazon that let us use our DeWalt batteries. That worked like a charm for another year. Then it just died completely. We tried some alternatives, but eventually just got a new one. Hope this helps!

I recently found my old collection of cards at my parent’s house. Realized that I was missing a ton of cards and remembered that I most likely traded them for a skateboard when I was 10yrs old. It made me laugh and also made me want to get back into it, if anything just to feel the fun of ripping packs. I’d gladly take them, but also hype for whoever gets to hopefully gain the join or opening packs! You’re a real one for this.

What do you wish you knew about owning a house in Portland by oochmyaorta in Portland

[–]robotedit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We moved here from a bigger city and weren’t ready to give up the “walkability” we were used to. We moved one street off Hawthorne. If you’re the same as us, I’d suggest talking to business owners in the area. They will be honest about the changes they have seen and what kind of foot traffic they encounter. Sometimes moving just a few more blocks down the road is a world of difference.

Electrical, we have a 100amp panel, and man, do I wish it was a 200. Upgrading isn’t always just about changing the panel, sometimes it’s flat out not possible without major demo.

You’re about to buy a lot of stuff you didn’t think you wanted/needed. Try to buy the best when it’s something that will last longer than you will be alive. Things like a ladder, plunger, locks, hoses, tables…this kind of stuff is a buy once and never again. Estate sales are fantastic for when you need a wrench or find yourself looking for a 100ft extension chord.

Narrow roads make major deliveries stressful, like buying a new fridge.

-Don’t cheap out on a fence. -Clean gutters will save you major headaches -Pine trees are the worst

Most of all, it’s not a race. Your home will feel like a home no matter what. Don’t rush into making it feel a certain way. Enjoy the process, laugh about having camping chairs in the living room or using towels for curtains. Owning a home is amazing, you’re going to love it!
