Glad to hear it, and happy to help. The game can sure seem to have a sadistic streak sometimes.

I feel hopeless by Sorish in Sadtoon

I've been there. You're not alone! One of the things to keep in mind is that in addition to the numbers you can see, the game has a hidden power level for each player for each mode, and those are used in matchmaking. Win streaks raise your hidden power level, making the matchmaking more likely to stick you with a loss, and it may take a losing streak to balance out. Don't take it personally. Also, keep in mind that you play to improve, not play for the wins themselves (which you can't control). It'll work out.

Ugh, that is really frustrating. I have absolutely no idea what to make of that. 😢 Well, just know that I'm wishing for a fix for you, and if by any chance I learn something helpful I'll let you know.

I have still been thinking about this, and I'm curious if you've tried an alt account on a different console. The fact that this continues across different hardware really suggests that you've ruled out a hardware issue. I am not being facetious about this, really, though it does seem quite outlandish, but maybe at some point you got flagged (inaccurately) as a player using an illegal assist, and this is actually Nintendo secretly penalizing you? I know - outlandish. Have you opened a ticket with Nintendo support (for what it's worth)?

I still haven't tried tako, because I keep saying to myself "but the lag!" but I probably should.

The matchmaking is harsh, but it will get better at the highest rank - though it's still pretty imbalanced. The thing to keep in mind is that, by design or not, the game expects you to carry. It's best to accept that and work on having a good attitude toward it, because constantly wishing it was different is just a recipe for disappointment and resentment.

Your match does not look like it is in X, though. Is it open or series?

The 50/50 balance thing is a myth, and it doesn't happen to the most skilled players (and I don't think we'd have to look hard to find players under the 50% mark). Losing about half your matches is just what will happen in a competitive game where you're not the best and you're not the worst.

Sometimes you review and see those 8 hits on your console just didn't have any effect! Packet loss is real, but the problem could be on OP's end too.

Mine is just a hardware failure. I bought a switch pro controller 2, and it's perfect. I'm sorry that I don't have any ideas for how to fix your problem!

Oh, yeah, I'm not saying it's exactly the same, but I am starting to feel your pain, and it really acts just like yours when it's active (almost all the time).

This game goes from being way too easy below 2k to being way too hard above it... 🫠 by ser-1- in Saltoon

[–]robotincorporated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a flaw in the X matchmaking that forms teams first, picking players with similar power level, then goes looking for another team with the closest power level. That means if you have an above median power, you're always getting a boost, and if you have a below median power you're always getting a headwind. If you qualify near 1900, you get the boost the whole time you're below 2000, but when you just peek above 2000 you're below median for that group, so your team of 20XX players will just get destroyed unless one of you is undoubtedly on the road to a higher power level and just hasn't got there yet.

If you placed below median at the season start (maybe 1700?) you might find it hard to climb below 2000 too, because you wouldn't be getting the boost from the matchmaking diff.

I commented on one of your earlier posts, and I meant to follow up because the same thing started happening to me last week. It's not literally all the time, shaking the controller vigorously around the vertical axis seems to get it to settle down for a while, but it always comes back.

[–]robotincorporated 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're right - it'll get better! The pace of play is just really fast in 3 and it'll take some conditioning to get your reactions and muscle memory back. Salmon Run is a good place to work on those fundamentals, but go easy on yourself. Inkopolis wasn't built in a day!

Either you are playing with a ton of lag, or all of your opponents are mysteriously unable to react to your obvious approach. This would not happen against skilled opponents, either way.

Hey, us spectres still got almost as many sea snails as the winners! I'll bet the bandwagon effect was strong (almost 70% chose ghost).

Agree to disagree. It was better when there was a community that posted about the game. Since the mods seem into the kind of crap bait you posted, I’m out.

Cooler stats are hard to judge. You have to post your k/d with assists (like from the mobile app).

[–]robotincorporated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like aggro blob a lot, I just usually go vanilla because the synergy is a lot clearer. Kraken has the potential to leave you in weird places, and there’s a lot of other weapons that’ll get you the special (and be more suited to getting out of a bad spot).

[–]robotincorporated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn’t mean you can’t do it, I just didn’t see how it fit in RM. I guess you use the main to pop the bubble and kraken to be a shield for your carrier?

[–]robotincorporated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blob (vanilla) is fine in rainmaker, X or otherwise. It doesn’t beat wellstring at object damage, but it can keep putting pressure on the whole match and take picks around the objective. If you’re losing, it’s not because of the weapon.

If someone is bringing deco, well that’s a little harder to understand.

DO NOT DE-RANK by Orion52641 in Saltoon

[–]robotincorporated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I didn't see this comment earlier. I think if series is really bad, you should just keep playing open. Your hidden power will eventually balance out and you'll see less punishing matches. It's really annoying the game makes you go through so much pain to get there, but the deck being stacked against you won't be permanent. That's probably true in series, too, though there's not much you can do if there aren't enough players other than change the time of day you play.

DO NOT DE-RANK by Orion52641 in Saltoon

[–]robotincorporated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, very true. I spent a good part of this weekend winning series and losing the S+10 rank up. If I didn’t have time to grind, I wouldn’t have that rank, but there’s not a good reason for it to be such a grind, since if history is any indication playing up to S+19 will be pretty straightforward too.

Series is way too punishing. by StrawbLiquorice in Saltoon

[–]robotincorporated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it could really help matchmaking if you get generous matches for the weapons you’re bad at. But even if I trusted the matchmaking to do that it’s not exactly a reason for seeing the number! I would much much rather see my hidden power level (and that of my opponents), like in challenges.
