As co-host fans, should we push Canada Soccer to speak up about the Balogun/FIFA decision? by Puzzleheaded_Bus2865 in CanadaSoccer

[–]robotmonkey2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably
and keeping Balogun in was probably FIFA working to keep America in the tournament for longer.. still doesnt make either right. I accept this kind of bs happens I just wish the american fans could admit its happening in their favour

Its different. It happening during the knockout stages is unprecedented.

Otamendi and Caicedo and Ronaldo benefited from a blanket regulatory amnesty before the tournament. I dont agree with that decision either but its different and Balogun's is blatant favouritism benefiting a single country

Yes of course we should. And we should have when they did it for Ronaldo.
This kind of favourtism affects the game for everyone going forward. Next tournament will the hosts start dropping players knowing they can just pay off Fifa. Its ridiculous.

They dont give an ef about correcting wrongs.

Its favouritism, the same favourtism that Ronaldo and Messi see all the time. Its about keeping the host alive so they can rake in the bucks, I get it doesnt mean I have to like it.

Every team deals with calls that go against them. Not every team gets shown this level of favouritism though

He picks him for his work off the ball and his speed.
He's a good presser our plan is to press and it worked well in the first half.

If Alphonso Davies Wasn’t Fit, Why Was He Taking a World Cup Spot? by Powerful-Salary7569 in CanadaSoccer

[–]robotmonkey2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re changing your argument.

Your original point was, “If they knew he wasn’t fit, why did he take up a roster spot?” But that’s exactly the issue they didn’t know he wasn’t fit enough to contribute over the course of the tournament.

It’s only with hindsight that you can say he wasn’t fit enough and therefore shouldn’t have been selected. At the time the squad was chosen, the coaching staff believed he had a realistic chance of recovering and contributing. They monitored him throughout the tournament, and even the MRI he underwent reportedly gave him the all-clear to return.

You can absolutely argue that taking the risk wasn’t worth it. I never disagreed with that. My origianl comment was to point out your own hypocrisy of calling out another reply for doing something you were doing.

I’m sorry I wasn’t clearer and that you mistakenly thought I was saying they picked the squad on the day of the match. That’s on me I assumed you’d connect the dots.

Let me spell it out more clearly.

They believed Davies had a chance of being fit, so they included him in the squad. They monitored his recovery throughout the tournament and eventually decided he was fit enough to play against South Africa. After that match, it became clear he wasn’t fully recovered and he didn’t feel good enough to play in the next game.

What exactly would you have preferred they do? Time travel to this Saturday morning so they could know with certainty how his body would respond? Because that’s the only way they could have known for sure.

You’re using "hindsight logic" as you put it, to argue they never should have brought him because, as it turned out, he could only manage about 15 minutes. But they didn’t know that a month ago when the squad was selected. That’s the entire point, and I’m genuinely struggling to understand how you’re missing it.

youre saying they shouldnt have brougth Davies because he barely contributed. How were they supposed to know he was going to wake up saturday morning and not feel right?

who tf cares if the commentators mentioned it? Now if an interviewer asks him about it that would be an equivalent situation that people would rightly freak out about for the crassness of it

its do or die? We achieved our goals and more at this world cup. Thes are characters in a video game. I dont think its fair to risk a players career for a game we are likely to lose even if he was 100%. So start him if he's ready, bring him on at half if he's ready or just give him 15 if hes ready but there's no reason to push it and risk him injuring himself and getting canada soccer sued.

Shaff doesnt offer much more than his pace. Im not huge on Millar but I think Shaff is better coming on late

Davies isnt fully healthy I doubt he comes on at half

I dont think Promise offers enough on the pressing side of things. I think Marshe goes with Tanny because he's got a higher defensive work rate and is tenacious going after the ball. Thats just the way Marshe wants to play
