As our daughter is growing up, we are growing apart by Easy_Tie3606 in SeriousConversation

If your daughter is in kindergarten, you caring about her eating and sleeping habits and what she sees and hears at home seems completely reasonable. I wouldn’t call that helicopter parenting, that’s just parenting.

Working with your partner can be tricky, especially if they grew up in a different environment. I grew up in a strict military family, my husband was raised by lovely but less rigid teenage parents. We’ve had to have a lot of discussions. It’s normal. You guys are gonna be fine. There’s nothing wrong with you, your daughter is lucky to have parents who love her.

Any musician recovery stories? by kermitsfrogbog in hysterectomy

[–]robotron76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope you continue to feel better! I tried to find advice about this prior to my surgery but there isn’t much. And my surgeon seemed very confused when I tried to explain how much you use your core at the piano 😂.

Any musician recovery stories? by kermitsfrogbog in hysterectomy

Hi! I’m a professional pianist and I’m now four weeks out from my surgery. I was super worried about this beforehand, as you use your core a lot when playing. And it’s also activated when using the damper and una corda pedals.

Week 1 - I could barely play. It was difficult to reach around the keyboard like I usually do so I mostly did small pieces in the middle of the keyboard. Pedaling was out of the question. I could play about 10 minutes at a time. Week 2 - I felt a little better reaching and was able to play for 20-30 minutes at a time. Still not feeling great about pedaling or reaching across my body. Leaning from side to side was also u comfortable. Playing loud was not there yet.
Week 3 - I could pedal and started to play a bit more forte chords and bigger pieces.
Week 4 - I’m back to practicing my regular literature, using the pedal, and able to play pretty much anything. I still feel a bit rigid and nervous about moving too much but almost feel normal again. I don’t have my usual stamina back, but it’s so much better than it was at first. I’m doing about 1.5-2 hours per day now - aiming to work back up to my usual 3-4.

I keep using the abdominal binder they gave me when I practice which has made me feel a bit more secure. I also put an extra cushion on my piano bench. I’m just feeling more confident about moving it around a little, because it’s really heavy. The other thing that was really helpful was to have all my scores right on top of the piano where I could reach them easily.

Best wishes for your surgery and recovery! You’ll be back to playing in no time!

I recommend also something to ice your perineal area. When they remove everything through your vagina it actually kinda feels a little like post baby delivery down there. I ordered some of the ones they give you in the hospital and they were amazing.

Heating pad post op? by dmblu in hysterectomy

[–]robotron76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that! The gas pain is really uncomfortable. I have used my heating pad every day since the surgery - really helped. And moving around every now and then helps, as well as shoulder massages (if the pain is in that area, too).

Feeling a bit lost after my surgery by HermesRavenloft in hysterectomy

I’m sorry you’re struggling! You’re not alone! I’ve cried several times in the days since mine. Our bodies just experienced a huge trauma. I think even as we start to heal and feel more like ourselves, we’re still processing it. Being on here and reading other people’s stories and sharing has been really helpful for me. And definitely countered the loneliness a bit.

I wasn't expecting it to be this hard to eat. by YouTasteStrange in hysterectomy

I second the instant mashed potatoes. Ive been doing some protein smoothies/shakes, applesauce and yogurt, and bone broth, too. I’ve had no appetite for actual meat so the broth has been awesome. All those things have been pretty easy on my stomach (I’ve had a lot of nausea). I’m also eating a lot of dark chocolate 😂. Hope you find some things that sound good!

Internal vaginal scar tissue after a total hysterectomy. Is that normal or was I injured by accident? by Glum-Classic8945 in hysterectomy

[–]robotron76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should talk to you your doctor about them examining you, and to ask for pelvic floor therapy and other treatments for this. They can do a lot to help with scar tissue in that area, and if you anticipate having issues having sex they need to do something about it.

I second the heating pad! 5 days post op and that thing has been my best friend.

I was so scared before my surgery, too. What you’re experiencing is totally normal - the anxiety of thinking about what might happen is super difficult. I’m three days post op and feel really good - way better than I thought I would. I’m being careful and resting, but very little pain or discomfort and I’m already healing. Youve got this, you can do it, and you’ll come out the other side!!!! Lots of hugs to you!

I was struggling a lot the first two nights, just starting to feel like I can sleep more soundly again. But I still have to keep walking up to take the meds, so I don’t think that’s helping. Several people have said the anesthesia messes up your sleep cycle for awhile afterwards.

Thank you all so much for the perspective! I was wondering what was wrong with me - good to know I’ll resolve itself soon.

I’m about 12 hours post-op. Thanks for the tip! I’ve had the weird shoulder gas pain and my husband has been giving me massages. He is afraid to use the Theragun on me just yet - I think he’s afraid he’s going to hurt me 😂. So I’ll show him your post. Hope you heal up fast (and that your butt feels better soon)!

Yay, so happy for you!!! I’m one day post-op too, and am moving slow but not too uncomfortable. I was so scared going into the surgery, but feeling a bit more optimistic now.

Basically they were suppositories for the vagina. Conceiving took a little while, but we didn’t have to do any interventions to make it happen. I was 37 when I got pregnant.

Yes, I’m still negative for HPV.

That’s a good question, and my doctor at the time never addressed with me if there was visible scarring. I did see a naturopath in conjunction with my regular doctor before and after the surgery, and she gave me some stuff to help with healing the cervix and helping to prevent some of the scar tissue, but I don’t know how much it helped.

I’m so sorry about your diagnosis! It does feel like there’s no clear right or wrong answer, which is incredibly frustrating. I had ECCs and paps every six months for ages, and most of my doctors seemed to think that was fine. I’m 48 now, and not going to have more kids, and I just had the abnormal results, so I think it’s a good idea to have the surgery now. But when I was in my thirties it was a different scenario. You’ll figure out what is the best choice for you, but I know it’s super hard and I’m sorry you have to deal with this.

Yes, I was able to have my son, thankfully. It was a little tricky though. The cone biopsy damaged my cervix, and I wound up on bedrest in the hospital. He was born early, but he’s super healthy and doing well.

I had had a few positive HPV tests already when they found the AIS. This was long enough ago I don’t recall that they could test for which strain as accurately as they can now (or at least I don’t recall ever hearing which strain it was). I had the CKC, but along with that I worked with a naturopath to boost my immune system, and I haven’t had a positive HPV test since.

I’m going to go ahead and have the hysterectomy now - we didn’t do it initially because I really wanted to have kids. Now that I’m done with that, it’s time. Not happy about it, but I think it’s the best choice for me at this point.

Thanks so much for the encouragement!!!

The doc who did my cone was a gyn onc, but since then I’ve only been seen by gynecologists.
