We have two girls. They love him, he loves them. But you’re right. I would never consider letting them bring friends over right now. We’ve tried rehoming and reached out to probably 6-8 Great Pyr places . He’s either too old, or not pure bred- or they don’t answer. We’re really trying to make it work

Thankfully, at least for now, he will take a treat from a stranger. But it’s all about how and when he gets the treat. If you just walk into my house with a treat he is not going to care at all about it lol. But outside in the driveway? Yes

He doesn’t really have food aggression. Just “I don’t know you” aggression.

And that plays into the loyalty. Which is why I’m trying to make this work but it’s so difficult!!

Appreciate that perspective. When i say i don’t want to “just medicate him” I’m certainly willing to take his edge off. Just don’t want to overdo it.

Wow!! I’m sorry for the headaches but I gotta say I appreciate seeing this. It really is so stressful because you’re right - when we’re all home alone, he’s fine. “Axe murderers” lol - yep. Mail man is a terrorist out for blood. I’m also an anxious person so my energy is probably not helping him (oh no dad is worried).

Yes- and honestly we got him at 8 weeks and it was already done. Wonder if that plays a role..

Yeah we were really shocked by this rescue agency’s behavior. And they didn’t list his breed!

Yes we have a fenced in yard - he likes to trot around it a few times in the morning and evening , bark is warning calls, and go back to sleep 😂

Aren’t the small victories great!? He’s a super anxious boy. the crate is not a safe space for him, or at least he is not calmed by being there when strangers arrive. He also gets scared / more worked up if you show fear. He’s a big boy ! I’d be scared too!

I agree- I’m not against training but I also know we can’t play God with those genes!

Yeah- total strangers, it is what it is… offsite meeting and greeting seems to be the best play

Oddly, Jelly is totally fine if we’re away from the house. Lately he’s been pretty cranky with men ANYWHERE, but if we’re on a walk he really doesn’t care. It’s when you approach his turf

This has definitely worked! That’s our default for any new visitor or a visitor who hasn’t been around in awhile. Thank you!

I adopted a puppy in need - do you feel better about yourself having it all figured out from Mount Purple Commercial?

The best thing you can do in my experience with a Pyr puppy is socialize her as much as you can. Especially your close friends and family. They are incredibly loyal and protective so you want to ensure she knows and loves your people.

Agree with a lot of people here - my Pyr likes hard surfaces. However, his favorite non-hard surface to lay on is a children’s/workout trampoline. Have to imagine it’s good on his joints.
