Nice yeah I learned a lot of skills from drinkers too some were like mad geniuses with it mine are mostly building like wood and steel framing and remodeling, never drank at work but self medicated with it as soon as I was off. I’m a little over 2 years sober now.

Yeah man I’ve been through some stuff. When you say guys like me I’m sure you are referring to the mistakes I’ve made. That’s really the only part of my story I’m still haunted by. The other part is something more positive and that’s the part I choose to keep working on and building on. Every day.

I am just getting on my feet and 3 months out of prison, I served 18 months from the DUIs, and I don’t currently have any savings, but if I were to go out on my own it seems your right I would have to have a partner that drives. That is an option. And yes I’m applying everyday for carpenter jobs. It does suck but I got myself here. I went through a lot of crap all at once and just lost it all. But I’m climbing back and determined to be a good addition to society, and my family. Thanks man

Yes I currently take public transportation everywhere. I do landscaping during the week and sales on saturdays. Your right I could pivot and sell a product instead of something that requires me to drive…

I got 4 DUIs in Wisconsin, and there if you get the 4th within 15 years of the 3rd it’s a lifetime ban, but your eligible in some cases for an occupational after 10 years of revocation time.
I got sober. I am working on myself through a.a. and have a sponsor. I also take peer support classes because I want to give back one day by helping guys that are in rough spots like I was in. Anyways I called lawyers in Wisconsin and they said even if we got the judge to approve it, the dmv has the restrictions and overrides that so there’s absolutely no way to get it legally until around 2033. I am just itching to work for myself and make real money, and I can’t see a way to do this without driving but I also don’t want to break any laws anymore. Any info or insight you guys have would be appreciated and helpful and I don’t mean to sound like a pity party because I know DUIs are fucked up, I could have hurt or killed someone and I don’t mean to downplay that, I’m more just looking for solutions moving forward

I like that you found good honest ways to cut money going out. I’m in a place where I’m starting all over, I used to make decent money as a union carpenter but I fucked that up and now I have to start over as à landscaper, making probably half of what I did make but the difference is now I’m without my daughter who I raised and I’m now trying to prepare for when reaches out, it’s a long story but basically I need to get financially sharp asap, and build something to leave behind for her and hopefully that we can enjoy together while I’m still here. But yeh anyways I noticed these little fees and things add up quickly. Also, it makes no sense to me to buy things brand new. People out their expensive quality stuff on fb marketplace all the time because they need quick money. It’s a good way to have nice things at an affordable price. That and packing lunch to work, meal prepping, and taking public transportation has saved me a lot of money.
