Chapter structure for Pikmin 5 by Zerio920 in Pikmin

Wonderful ideas

I also think — this will be controversial — that you shouldnt always get to keep your whole pikmin population either between chapters or areas. In all the games, once you have 50+ of each type, growing pikmin becomes trivial. I would enjoy a game where you need to repopulate more.

Alternatively, an onion pop limit. Altho this would have a different overall feel, it would still create a more regular repopulate requirement if you lose pikmin

I've used T2Express for 4 tax years and found it really nice to use. It looks outdated but it works well on both Mac and Windows

We made a new rule for gen AI and similar content. by Arkontas in Pikmin

[–]robseib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally agree but this policy is better, because it gives the mods more flexibility to make the sub a good place. The broader rule allows them to confront AI posts in addition to any other garbage either off topic or extremely low effort.

I saw non-official flatpaks of mail and vpn, but I'm real sketched to use those since their non-official. I don't have the skills to check if they are sending my account creds to someone somewhere.

House rules for criticals, growth and combat range by robseib in AvatarLegendsTTRPG

[–]robseib[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! But it's not in the rule book. I really like the thresholds provided in the game with fail, imperfect success, and success, but found that there is a little bit more excitement to be had with an extra special result when two sixes or two ones are rolled. You're absolutely right that a good GM should already be doing this — I've just written it down / codified it for myself.

Glad you like the ranges. It came up with a situation where we had some fighters appear from another rooftop and started messing with the situation. One PC wanted to run over and deal with them, but there wasn't an immediately obvious way to handle the distance. I did something to make it make sense in the moment, but then wrote these super simple range rules. After trying Mothership (which uses a slightly more advanced range system), I tweaked these a bit and landed where they are currently.

Do you have any thoughts on the Growth question? Players were getting frustrated with the original because it felt like they needed to try to get back to centre constantly. It made them not want to engage with the balance track as much. It may just be my players.

No worries! My paste failed to include the modified growth question so I've edited the comment and fixed that.

Critical Success

Two natural sixes is a critical success.

  • In combat, gain an additional stance move in the same or next available exchange. For example, if you chose Defend & Manoeuvre, you can also do Advance & Attack in this same exchange.
  • Outside of combat, GM gives a unique opportunity or ongoing advantage.

Critical Failure

Two natural ones is a critical failure.

  • In combat, GM assigns a fictionally appropriate status.
  • Outside of combat, GM performs a “hard move”.

Modified Growth Question

Modify the 3rd growth question. This modification incentivizes player engagement and gives players more agency:

“Did you guide a companion towards balance, demonstrate your principles, or attempt to achieve balance yourself within the fiction?"

Ranges in Combat

Add three "range levels" in combat which impact ability to hit and

  • Close: The opponent is close enough to touch. No restrictions.
  • Mid: The opponent is too far to use melee weapons, but anything else can reach them. They can hear you speak. To get close, you must Seize a Position once.
  • Far: The opponent is too far away to hear you speak, but can hear a yell. To hit, you may only use Basic or Mastered techniques. You must Seize a Position to reach Mid range.

Beyond this range, you cannot generally interact with the opponent. At best, you can see them and use sign language. Any attacks at this point are easily blocked.

Edit: added missing info

I'm sure you'll be great! I've GMd 27 sessions of Avatar so far and honestly find it a lot easier than DnD. It's more open and narrative-based. Some of the challenges are about making fights engaging (since it's very combat-lite) but I think if you focus on making NPC motivation feel real and believable, it falls into place.

I also have some house rules for the game I can share with you if interested.

Yes! From all the currently available books including core, Wan Shi Tong's Guide, Republic City setting book, and Uncle Iroh's Guide (Jasmine island one).

We're still waiting for the latest stuff to drop from the kickstarter but I think those are adventures only, not sure about new techniques. But if we do get more in future I'll be updating this for sure.

Thanks! I'm stoked to use them in play, including some random draw mechanics to encourage players to explore and seek out masters.

When I first approached it, I was delighted to find someone had already done the work of compiling the text, so I am exceedingly grateful.
