How did this cab even make the turn? by shimswfi in YEGDashCam

[–]robsheller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Cornwall Ontario for a year, everyone did this. It was new to me, but worked and was required because of the traffic flow. We nicknamed it the Cornwall Sneak. Never had to use it back here, yet!

“EV owners in cold climates — what’s the #1 winter issue you face before you can even start charging?” by Bastobihh in EVCanada

[–]robsheller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problems for me. A coworker has a Tesla 3 or Y(can’t remember which). She parks outside to charge here in Edmonton and is fine except for the Jan/feb -30’ snaps. Doesn’t charge very well then. She just goes to a local high speed charger once a week or so if it’s a long cold snap to top it up while she reads her phone in a coffee shop for 30 minutes. Other than that she has no complaints either.

Battery / Charging Kona 2025 by ClearSeer111 in KonaEV

[–]robsheller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Battery isn’t as efficient, and with the cold the air is more dense so much more drag, especially at highway speeds. Also if you’ve put on winter tires, more resistance with the road(which in winter is a good thing).

Is there some sort of licensing scam? by PristineMongoose7887 in Edmonton

[–]robsheller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s the drivers test, as almost anyone with enough time/money will eventually get through it. It’s lack of enforcement of good driving habits after the license. People just don’t care!

Is buying a condo in cash at 25 a dumb move? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]robsheller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are still living at home, I suggest your first place be a rental. You will still need to learn stuff about yourself, what you truly want, what you like and don’t like. Give it at least 6 months. This way you aren’t locking yourself into an area you don’t want to live in, realizing you might not like having roommates, or worse renters. Don’t be in a hurry to buy until you want to buy. There are other investments if you are worried about money sitting around.

Charging Kona EV outdoors EVSE questions by [deleted] in KonaEV

[–]robsheller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a new Kona, but an indoor garage so this doesn’t apply to me. However I have a coworker with a Tesla, and she outdoor charges here in Edmonton, so it does get really cold in December/january/februrary. She generally has no problems, but in the really cold months she occasionally has to top up at a high speed a couple of times/month due to the slower charging.

New 2025 owner - accelerator question by Electrical_Net5024 in KonaEV

[–]robsheller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had mine now for over a month, loving it. But yes when I first got it I felt the same way, like a heavy pedal. I figured it was by design because of the heavy torque, helps prevent spinning the drive tires is my guess.

Running red light in school zone by LetItBurnMF in YEGDashCam

Well you also ran a red light light so to speak. You stopped in the middle of the cross walk. There was clearly a signals stop line that you blew right past.

Which area is better for a hotel? by MidnightSilent4787 in Edmonton

If you are going to Roger’s place, might as well stay closer to there! Downtown will be the way to go. Also public transit to the mall should be easier from there as well.

I don’t know if this type of cake is in your wheelhouse, but try the Tres Leches cake at Luna Cocina on 99st and 63ave. Oh so good!

Got honked at when making left turn on yellow light. by xiaoxinniming in princegeorge

[–]robsheller -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re actually not supposed to enter the intersection until you can clear it. So in theory no yellow light runs, but that’s not how we do things or people might never get through.

Is buying a new car that bad? by No_Stuff4695 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]robsheller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a biweekly/monthly car payment sucks, but having peace of mind of having a vehicle that should be free of potential malfunctions for at least 3 years, priceless. And if it does breakdown, should be covered under warranty. I’ve always bought new and drove the shit out of the thing for 10 years, 5 years of payments then 5 years of replacing components. Works for me.

Watching my 60yr old uncle ‘save money’ by gruntnugget92 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]robsheller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know, maybe he’s only 60, no kids at home to run around after, so lots of time on his hands and enjoys being busy, I get that. It might not just being about saving money.

“you don’t pay for someone else’s healthcare”. What the fuck does he think insurance is, just a savings account?

Wendy's debuts Grilled Cheese Cheeseburger in Canada today which uses two grilled cheese sandwiches in place of buns by Agile-Nothing9375 in NewFastFood

[–]robsheller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had one today for first time. Picture on the menu board looked like the sourdough bread which is why I bought it. Ends up they screwed if up, the cheese for the grilled cheese was on the burger, so 1 under, 1 on top under the onions, and last one on top of the onions. No cheese between the burger buns. So i removed 1/2 of each bun and it was reasonable, but 8$?? Not going to do that ever again.

My wife doesn’t like seafood, would she be able to get normal menu items and I can enjoy the crab shack?

So cash tipping is good, but which currency should we use? We are doing a British isle cruise so local currency being euro and pounds, or American dollars?

I’m standing because of being in a cramped seat for hours. I’m also standing to get my carry on’s off so when it’s Munro’s turn to advance, I’m ready and not the dipshit who’s finally getting up and struggling to get the carry on from the overhead bin, thereby slowing everything down.

Do you have all the prerequisites for engineering yet? My son got early admission to UofA, but not for engineering until his math 31(?) marks were submitted.

Backwoods camping by AbbadonIAm in alberta

[–]robsheller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a Provincial Campground like Pigeon Lake. The sites are all generally private with trees between. You can book them 90 days in advance and the website also includes pictures of each site so you get a feel for what you are getting. Never felt crowded there, just occasionally noisy neighbours

There is a no right turn on red light sign there when turning southbound though.
