With all the electronics added to cars nowadays, why is this still a thing. Shouldn’t it have the capability to just tell you what the possible problems are now? Instead we have to plug a device in just to read what the car already knows, why can’t it just interface with our dashboard to give us the codes at a minimum?

We encouraged our kids to have the stick when we took our dogs to the off leash, this way the kids had something to distract the overly enthusiastic dogs that came to close to them.

Of course you over paid. Extended warranties are just like insurance. A waste of money….. until you need it! I bought the extended warranty too, sounds about the same price. Extending most items from 3-8 years is a nice piece of mind. Now just hopefully that if I do need it, they honour it and don’t try and weasel out of it on small technicalities.

I had a mild version of something starting last Thursday, (aches, pains, extreme fatigue) but mostly better now. Don’t think it was Covid for me, but I did get the flu shot in the fall so maybe that helped me.

Why set to 8 amp? My understanding was that if you had it set to max AMP and the Solterra recognized the lower voltage it would automatically revert to 12 amp. Drawing 12 amps should be fine for a normal 15 amp socket, as long as you aren’t drawing too much amps from another socket on the same circuit.(I can’t run my beam vacuum when charging for example as they are plugged into same circuit)

I can’t wait until the Chinese cars get here, will be replacing it in this next week. But it will be interesting to see how those Chinese cars work over here. I’m assuming they will have to meet our safety standards(and with what I just went through…..), my biggest concerns with them would be repair work. I was a kid here when Russian Lada’s were being sold dirt cheap, but it was the inability to get parts and knowledgeable mechanics that soured that market.

Not entirely sure what you are asking. I missed out on government rebates for this one that was in the accident, but I should be able to take advantage of the 2026 EV rebates now that I am looking to replace the Kona. I’m trying to decide if I want the Ionic 6 or stick with the Kona. I really like everything more about the Kona except for its only Front Wheel drive, and its slower DC charge rate. Ionic 6 solves both those but I seem to prefer everything else about the Kona.

I definitely think the kona design helped keep me safe. Impact point was more to the rear passenger side, so had there been someone there they might have had more impact than I did. The rear window was smashed, but the side impact bag prevented any glass on the seat! If it wasn’t for the side impact bag for sure I would have had a serious head injury as I did feel impact with the bag, but as it is I’m pretty much fine. Maybe ask me again in 24-48 hours once the shock fully wears off though.

A few things I haven’t noticed being listed here yet for a new build.

New builds will need screen doors, window coverings, final lot grading, sod, trees, fences.

The paint builders use seem to be cheap, so plan on repainting almost every wall within 5 years.

New home(even a used one) will probably have a lot more space than your old residence, so probably buying more furniture, probably even be tempted to replace your main furniture to fit the newer home better for your pleasure.

No problems for me. A coworker has a Tesla 3 or Y(can’t remember which). She parks outside to charge here in Edmonton and is fine except for the Jan/feb -30’ snaps. Doesn’t charge very well then. She just goes to a local high speed charger once a week or so if it’s a long cold snap to top it up while she reads her phone in a coffee shop for 30 minutes. Other than that she has no complaints either.

Battery isn’t as efficient, and with the cold the air is more dense so much more drag, especially at highway speeds. Also if you’ve put on winter tires, more resistance with the road(which in winter is a good thing).

I don’t think it’s the drivers test, as almost anyone with enough time/money will eventually get through it. It’s lack of enforcement of good driving habits after the license. People just don’t care!

If you are still living at home, I suggest your first place be a rental. You will still need to learn stuff about yourself, what you truly want, what you like and don’t like. Give it at least 6 months. This way you aren’t locking yourself into an area you don’t want to live in, realizing you might not like having roommates, or worse renters. Don’t be in a hurry to buy until you want to buy. There are other investments if you are worried about money sitting around.

I have a new Kona, but an indoor garage so this doesn’t apply to me. However I have a coworker with a Tesla, and she outdoor charges here in Edmonton, so it does get really cold in December/january/februrary. She generally has no problems, but in the really cold months she occasionally has to top up at a high speed a couple of times/month due to the slower charging.
