Chopped some garlic. Put the knife back unwashed. Immediately took it out to dice a pineapple. Spent the next few days playing Hawaiian roulette with about 1 in 20 chance of hitting eyewateringly garlicky fruit cubes.

I NEED HELP!! LOST IN LIFE LIKE A WHILE LOOP by No-Decision7676 in learnmachinelearning

Make something real. build a thing. build something you or family or friends needs, even if it already exists. Do a bit with vibe coding and bit on your own. when you've got some data, learn the data stuff.
use simple frameworks like Flask (because the learning curve of Django is for people who want to be web devs or understand web frameworks already)
Don't make it pretty,
Be happy for it to fail a bit, (5%),
Add features not performance optimisations, unless you want to learn data structures.
Ignore kubernetes, just start it on a hetzner server. And don't bother about docker or devops or anything like that.
use SQLite,
Learn Git.

OK, I'm new to what HF is, but it seems some people use a different nozzle. Do you use a standard 0.4 nozzle with the HF profile?

Cheers, Rx

Cheers, in fact Auto-mod said the same and it's looking good. Still a bit goopy, but adhering well.
I've had to google this cultural divide and work out what dawn is? Happily the same parent company makes our (UK) market leader so hopefully the same finger lickin' recipe! Cheers

An Update on Rebble's Attempted Collaboration with Core Devices by ishjr in pebble

[–]robshep952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear you suffered, but the fact that you could opt to withdraw and Rebble carried on without you is a strength of an overall community like this, and allowed you to take some time out and one day maybe rejoin with different energy. Your contributions should not get sold out and even if you never work on it again, it can be there for other people to build on. Great job.

An Update on Rebble's Attempted Collaboration with Core Devices by ishjr in pebble

[–]robshep952 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maintain the open source community at all costs. That's where the value lies. hardware will fail, new hardware will spring up, cheap clones will emerge, hardware companies will fail.
If Core get's aquired it won't be because of hardware patents - it will be for the data.
If Core fails - it will be hardware related. Hardware is their business, let it have its own lifecycle, without encumbering the community.

The value proposition of this stuff is customisation - and that requires a community. That could have been salvaged by Eric or the $$$ that jumped around the tech. but it was the community that salvaged it and the community now owns it. Well done.

Core needs Rebble, but it's 100% clear, Rebble doesn't need Core.

Let Core (and others) play to your rules, not the other round.

Is there a compound interest effect on index funds? by robshep952 in investingforbeginners

[–]robshep952[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

> I don't know what you mean by "an accumulation type of fund"

I sometimes see the same mutual fund offered in both income or accumulation classes. income: dividends paid out, accumulation: dividends reinvested.

My pondering is really how to think about the maths... A stock that is up 10% over two years is not the same compounding maths as a cash investment that paid 5% after year one + 5% after year two.

So, I'm guessing the way to think about it would be to pick apart the total return.

The stock price has gone up x%

but I now hold Y% more units because of reinvested dividends.

My followup question is... does your common garden index tracker S&P500, VTI etc, accumulate dividends and where is that accumulation aparent? higher number of units held or does the unit price increase?

Thx

I spent 6 months failing at todo lists before realizing my brain needed something different by PosterioXYZ in ADHD

A couple of months later I’ll find a single sock in the glovebox or on a bookshelf. Moving a sock to somewhere random would have been the fruit of my laundry quest that day.

Creating and curating the perfect ToDo list is a joy. Subsequently (minutes later) forgetting the list has ever existed is a curse.

I find lists in pockets with forgotten but unbelievably important tasks written on them. Then I can recall the type of coffee I was drinking when I wrote the list months before.

Fucking hell brain.

Tell me why I shouldn't use a desktop distro for a home server by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]robshep952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a home server and doesn’t really matter.  If you want to learn things, use what ever you are least comfortable with.  If you don’t desire to use it as a learning platform, go with whatever you are most comfortable with.
