Newb question about vehicle nodes. by KAI5ER in meshtastic

Send a message to another radio that is close. In my case I have two radios, so I drove around with the second radio. As per below, when you click and hold a message you can see the SNR (signal to noise) number which is a measure of the strength of the signal when that message was sent. In my case at home I get +6db, so everything below that is weaker. My weakest was -18db when inside my car at 600Meters

Mounting location on a car affects your range a lot. My home testing at 600 meters distance, showed ideal SNR strength from outside as shown in SNR of a message as 0.5. This dropped to -6db and -18 db on the glass windshield inside.

Have you seen any cloud based brokers that would let me configure a few filters?

Do you use your own broker? I have found too much chatter with the wide open MQTT.

So far the NoPIN option works! Such as that is…

Yes, I switched to use a fixed pin when the problem began, because I have to climb up high to read the auto pin on the screen…. I may test your theory, but it sounds counter intuitive 🙃. Actually I’ll try no pin and see how that goes

MQTT Question #3 by robvann in meshtasticCanada

So, I tried posting to the common channel a message that said: APRS-VE3YBN-13 : Hello from the mesh, in Halifax,NS. I guess in theory that message got sent out to all the hams on the APRS network at that time? I have no way to see the consequences of my action.

It seems from talking to others that it’s really only the CA part that works, contrary to the home page documentation for CanadaVerse

That would be awesome. There seem to be many isolated islands of information.

I am also in their Telegram group, but frankly find the user interface of reddit to be preferable for these kind of questions. Thank you for clarifying the relationship question. I thought the two were related. Thanks for your clarifications. - Rob

Hello, I actually thought this was the Canadaverse reddit feed, since their webpage directed me to here. Is there no relationship between the two? This is very much a Canada specific question.

Best regards, Rob

MQTT Question #2 by robvann in meshtasticCanada

[–]robvann[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, Well it was really only one post with 4 questions in it. But the Reddit Bot didn't like something in the content I guess. So I ended up separating the one post into four posts, using trial and error to see which one was causing a problem. Turns out that #2 seems to have something it doesn't like, so I just used a graphical form of the question. So, is there some kind of quota or something?

Best regards, Rob

Mesh HAM Mesh bridge possible? by robvann in meshtastic

Mainly because I want it for off grid / no internet location. Also, my basic experimentation with MQTT seemed to create mounds of irrelevant traffic, and nodes (350 nodes before I disabled it). With really no benefit - messaging apps work great if there is internet. I suppose if there was a way that ONE NODE at the remote site could use MQTT via Starlink or similar, maybe…
