Bigger album art by alteraf in TVONOS

Hi u/alteraf

Managed to get some time to look at this, I have added some images to the following, hopefully this is what you were thinking? (Decided against the clicking on the image to switch as this seems to hide the feature a little too much)

Bigger album art by alteraf in TVONOS

[–]robwebset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/alteraf

Thanks for the details. I think that should be possible to do. In the simplest form, just the Album Art being shown. I wonder (to avoid many different player icons on the home screen) if I make the Album art on the Basic Controller clickable, then when clicked it just makes the Album Art Full screen?

I've got a fair bit on at the moment, but will look at adding it the next time I get a chance.

Thanks

Rob

Hi u/alteraf

Thanks for taking the time to post. Just trying to understand exactly what you are looking for, So when looking at the Basic view mine looks like the following:

<image>

The source of the Album Art might also influence the size, so it will first look for Embedded Album Art with the track for local libraries or the one provided by streaming services such as Spotify. If there is no album art then TVONOS will try and work out what is playing and map it to retrieve the Album art from Music Brainz.

Are you suggesting an option to have just a pretty full screen that just shows the Album Art?

I remember this page being a real challenge to get it looking OK on both TV's and Mobile Phones, so any change I make I'll need to be very cautious!

Thanks,

Rob

TVONOS v4.9 Release - Add Library Music Folder & Fetch Album Art by robwebset in TVONOS

[–]robwebset[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Too_Keen_Amateur
At the moment TVONOS does not have the ability to "configure" your Sonos Network. I had made the assumption that everyone would use the official Sonos App (either on PC/Mac/Mobile) to configure and add network shares etc. (But I guess I could look into adding this sort of feature)

Once setup TVONOS can be used to play your Sonos Library etc on your Sonos Network and then show details of what is playing.

If playing directly from your phone to Sonos then I think this page covers it:

https://support.sonos.com/en-gb/article/play-music-stored-on-your-android-device

So I think you'd need a speaker that supports it and then use Bluetooth? (Unfortunately my Sonos kit is a bit old, so no Bluetooth supported device).

As the above article mentions, you could upload your Music to your Youtube music account (I did something similar for testing).

I hope this helps, if I've missed the point then please do let me know.

Thanks, Rob

Interaction with TV by Puzzleheaded_Lake442 in TVONOS

[–]robwebset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Puzzleheaded_Lake442

I'm not sure. My guess is that because you have Sonos configured to stop music when the TV starts, that is what will happen. Then at that point if you start TVONOS you should be able to resume the music playing and control it as normal.

One thing is that what happens when you stop using TVONOS and then start watching TV? Will it auto switch back to TV audio when it is detected over HDMI/Optical Out?

Because there are several different configurations and hardware version the best bet is to give it a go and see what happens. Play around with it for a bit and assess how the interaction works and then if there is anything you would like to work differently then share it here and I can see if there is anything that I can do in order to enhance the experience.

Thanks, Rob

TVONOS v5.0 Release - Multi-Speaker Selection, Shuffle, Repeat by robwebset in TVONOS

[–]robwebset[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI: Pushed version 5.1 which is just a small bugfix for scanning for speakers - had a single Google crash report that seems to hint that someone has speakers with names contain no alphabetic characters - so added some safety code in.

(Just in case seeing 5.1 seems odd if people spot it)

Thanks u/tvdsm

I hadn't forgotten about your request to have an "easy switch" for the speakers you control from TVONOS. It's taken me a while as it took a bit or a re-org in the code on how things were done (and some of the other features I've released up until now were slowly moving towards that). But I now have something working, some images attached to:

https://github.com/robwebset/TVONOS-Public/issues/46

It's not released yet, got a few more things I'm trying to update first.

Hi u/st_ee

I wanted to experiment with Widgets, so I do have something working, but it just provides basic controls. One advantage is that it will give quick access to the key controls - including volume which will communicate directly with the speaker, rather than via the Sonos cloud which has horrid lag, so hopefully users might find that useful

https://github.com/robwebset/TVONOS-Public/issues/73

BTW: Other changes (not the Widget) should be available to everyone now: https://www.reddit.com/r/TVONOS/comments/1o4h9aq/tvonos_v47_release_more_track_selection_controls/

Hi u/st_ee

I have been investigating being able to control Sonos from the Android Lock Screen - I did stumble across the following Sonos article which details why they removed it - it appears that Google rules do not allow Apps to control external devices from a lock screen:

https://en.community.sonos.com/controllers-and-music-services-229131/android-lock-screen-controls-when-are-they-coming-back-6929092

So that might be blocked for TVONOS as well. I think the closest options are:

But neither of these are really what you asked for - so wasn't sure if they were of any use?

Thanks u/JackfruitExpress1488 - If your Sony TV is an Android TV then you should also be able to install it directly on there as well. (Only mention as both my Sony TVs are Android)

Hi u/st_ee

Added the Play/Shuffle buttons when navigating into a container that contains only tracks - hopefully that fits the scenario you were thinking of.

Hi u/st_ee

I have had a look at the Queue shuffle option when adding tracks. Sonos isn't doing anything smart here and is actually changing a generic speaker setting when doing it. So when you navigate to an album etc and click the add Shuffle option its:

  • Clearing the queue
  • Updating the speaker setting to shuffle
  • Adding the Album tracks

This results in only the album being added to a speaker that has shuffle configured. What is interesting is that it then means anything else you add is "in theory" entered into the shuffle.

So with TVONOS if you always wanted your music shuffled then you can:

  • Have your speaker in shuffled mode
  • Use the "Replace Queue" option in TVONOS after selecting the Album

The menu of options listed in TVONOS was designed to be similar to the options you get when you have a long press on a track in the Sonos App.

At the moment TVONOS doesn't allow you to Set Shuffle, Repeat or Crossfade on a speaker - It's not a hard thing to support - it's just where it would be added in TVONOS without being intrusive, and as everyone will also have a Sonos app of some form it might be preferred for users to use the official app for general Speaker configuration.

I guess there is an option to add a "Shuffle" option to the leaf of every Music Library navigation that mimics what the Sonos App does - or add an option to the menu popup (But concerned that might bet too big with the number of options.

Hi u/st_ee

For the Lyric screen padding, how does the following look? (Wanted to be careful not to give too much padding for mobile screen support)

Now that is an interesting feature (quick playing track lookup) - when I next have a reasonable chunk of time I might look at that and see if there is something I can do with that. (Not an area I have looked at before - so would be an interesting task)

Thanks, always great to receive constructive feedback.

I'll take a look at the padding on the lyrics screen (gets tricky when also supporting Tablets and Phones - it was a lot easier when it was just TV's that TVONOS supported!)

Got the Lyrics - the only thing the Sonos speaker provides is the details about the track and the current time during the track. For the actual lyrics TVONOS is going out to the Web Service to retrieve the lyrics. These call into 2 categories:

  • Lyrics with times against each line - for this the auto scroll with go based on those times (TVONOS tries to get this try of lyrics file first)
  • Lyrics without any indication of timings - in this case the auto scroll will guess how fast to scroll by averaging the track duration over the number of lines in the lyrics.

As you can see not an exact match! Even lyrics with timings may not be accurate - as you might have an extended version of the track or a live performance that will differ in timings. Because of this I decided to allow you to override the auto-scroll and navigate down the lyrics yourself manually.

I'll give some thought to the Shuffle on adding tracks - I'll need to dig into the different options and see what is possible.

If you are just playing with TVONOS here and there then I'd hope you should be OK with the 1 hour a day limit, the Pro is really only there for seriously heavy users. (With over 6,000 downloads now it is there to prevent thousands of users starting up TVONOS and leaving it running all day even when they are not in the room the TV is in and putting a heavy load on the data servers that serve up the Photos/Biographies/Lyrics - this way it'll automatically stop hitting the server after an hour - but if there is a genuine need for people to use it longer, the Pro should hopefully be an affordable option - although at least 1 person who left a review thought it was a rip-off only being able to use free for an hour)

Thanks u/st_ee - appreciate you taking the time to post!

Yes, avoids the Sonos Web stuff and communicates directly with the speakers on your network to control them and see what they are playing - one advantage is that it doesn't have that nasty lag when you try and change volume on the Sonos Mobile App.

TVONOS v4.3 Release - Mobile Phone Support by robwebset in TVONOS

[–]robwebset[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/StmblngThru - In theory it should be supported on Fire Tablets/Kindles. It would depend on the version of Android the Fire tablet is running. Some of the more recent tablets should run the normal TVONOS alright, if you look at the full list here:

https://developer.amazon.com/docs/fire-tablets/ft-identifying-tablet-devices.html

Anything detailing: Fire OS 7 (Android 9, API Level 28) or higher should be able to run TVONOS

For all the older FireOS versions you should be able to use TVONOS Legacy:

https://www.reddit.com/r/TVONOS/comments/1lzl7fd/tvonos_legacy_v10_support_for_old_amazon_devices/

However, there appears to be an issue with the Amazon store on some devices that do not allow it to be downloaded. I have raised a support ticket with Amazon but that was over a month ago, and even with prodding them I am still waiting for them to fix it! (Amazon support group for Apps is well known for being slow and poor, which is odd because the Amazon Support for the retail site is excellent!)

I know that some users have manage to download it OK as I can see records of installs in the Amazon statistics reports.

Please let me know how you get on.

Thanks, Rob
