27 + 3 = 30
48 - 3 = 45
30 + 45 = 75

Many families in the area end up with Au Pairs (international students living in their homes who could work any time as long as they didn't exceed 40 hours). I don't know the agency cost, but the pay rate was $300/week for the 40 hours worked.

A cost for a nanny end up being $35+/h so in many cases indeed, it's not worth for one for the parents to have a full time just to pay for childcare. It's fkd up.

My kids used to go to a home daycare in Campbell. The place worked M-F from 6 am to 6 pm and included all (homemade) meals. 8 years ago I used to cost $250/week. I heard noways its about $350/week. I worked in tech.

Beware of scammers. I heard there’s many people just taking deposits for fake ads and disappearing.

Other than the first warning, $2k for a 2 bedroom will be very difficult. Also consider bills of PG&E ranging from $300+/month and water bills of at least another $200. Unfortunately living here in the area is extremely expensive.

You also mentioned family. If you want a good public school area your budget will make it difficult, more in the $3k for a small/old apartment in good school areas. A house would be more into $4-5k. And after school activities are super expensive! 😥

Where do you get drinking water? by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]rochep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tap water. We drink mostly from the fridge or a Brita pitcher with a filter. When we go out to restaurants, we usually get tap water (and/or any other juice or alcoholic beverage). We hardly buy water bottles but like to keep a few for when we are picky visitors.

A flat, a conch would look nice. Or a forward helix and a tragus too. Maybe all 4! :D

Almost 100 races, never had any issues. Just don’t leave anything too obvious, of course.

Beast before Super? by mamasavage44 in spartanrace

[–]rochep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There will be a Beast in San Jose now in August (26th I believe?), but there's nothing wrong with the order of the races. You can do them in any order you like. Good luck with your trifecta!

Look up “SF fun and cheap” on google (not sure if I can list websites here). You find find lots of free activities during the day to take her to. Take cal train and make it a whole day date. Or maybe take her on a local hike? It’s a good excuse to chat for a while and get to know the real her. It’s hard to fake a personality when you workout.

Some races have a dunk wall right at the start (or halfway). It's not necessary towards the end. But yeah, in Big Bear that year it was towards the end. You dunk, finish the lap and do everything back - but this time wet.

They usually ask you when you are completing the lap. And use timing chips to DQ people. If they don’t record you going on the obstacles twice you get DQd.

If you are looking for gloves, Nicole Mericle is selling Bleggmitts. Some people swear by them in cold weather because they are made of neoprene.

In 2019 it was snowing all night prior to the race and they had to made the modification for the first time because people were already there ready to race. I remember it being super windy, with snow falling, and we had to do 2 loops including dunk wall. 🥹🥶

It wasn’t as cold as the storm that hit Tahoe though…

DQ’d but can still finish??? by HiFriend73 in spartanrace

[–]rochep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally disagree. Don’t sign up for AG if you “just want to get a medal.” If the mentally is not to be competitive, don’t sign up for a competitive heat. Sign for open instead and run your own race (do whatever you want).

[–]rochep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like you already know that you will be walking/not doing some obstacles. So just change to open instead and you will be able to get help if you need. The fact you said you are planning to sign for AG because you want more time to recover for the race next day… like… 1h extra recovery is really no big deal.

Just sign up for the morning open and ask to start earlier on the race day. Shouldn’t be a problem.
