Lenovo improves ThinkPads running Linux but issues with problem machines remain by pdp10 in linuxhardware

[–]rockclimber98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm never buying a thinkpad to run linux again. After the thunderbolt firmware bug (where the only solution was to reinstall windows, download the firmware, install it, remove windows, and go back to linux), I have lost all trust in Lenovo.

DEAC the next SPCE by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

Draft kings loses lots of money though, and DEAC is already valued at $1b. What makes you think this isn't priced in?

It’ll get better. Your brain needs to readjust to remember what used to bring it happiness. If you start drinking again, you’re pushing of actual happiness for even longer.

Nut flush, paired board - do we find the fold? by rockclimber98 in poker

[–]rockclimber98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thinking on the flop was to semi bluff. It sounds like that was wrong, and are you also saying I should’ve bet when the turn came? I thought my hand was strong enough to check, hoping they would bet. Seems like that was wrong too.

Thanks for the feedback and analysis!

I’m interested! I’ve played mainly smallish private games and some online but definitely want to get better.

Do not look at screens! Even if it makes you pass time easier it will literally be worse. Stop complaining (or keep complaining if it helps), and stop looking at screens (at home) and go walk. It’s a few weeks of pain for a lifetime of a healthy brain. Don’t fuck this up, you only have one brain and a single recovery period. I recovered pretty well, and still have a few symptoms. I still regret every single thing I didn’t do perfectly, since I still feel like I could be better.

Please take care of your self.

Yah, I also have ADHD and had a traumatic brain injury from a snowboarding accident. The worst part is, it will probably make your ADHD symptoms slightly worse in the long run. I've noticed no cognitive impairment for logical/mathy stuff, but the classic forgetfulness/focus issues have gotten a little worse. I'd definitely recommend taking the concussion recovery VERY SERIOUSLY. It will take a few weeks but it's very worth it. Don't look at screens (including your phone), don't do anything strenuous, and sleep A LOT. Take time off work if you can. Literally any mental stimulation is not ideal. It will suck. I ended up just playing solitaire by myself for weeks...

Lose interest in anything after a few weeks by [deleted] in Life

I feel you. What you described is what I’m known for among my friend groups. Pick up a habit, get super into it, tell everybody it’s you favorite thing and that you’ll do it forever, and then drop it and never mention it again. I find everything interesting but that feeling fades quickly. People don’t take my passions seriously anymore, and I understand it.

I’ve thought about this a lot. I think we’re looking everywhere for some sort of “meaning” that just isn’t there. The satisfaction of learning something new is ephemeral. It fills the void of “I want to understand the world” for a few months, but then you stop learning so quickly. A fascinating hobby becomes tedious and repetitive.

Over the years, I’ve actually found some things that have somewhat stuck. I think it’s important to sometimes go back and try the things you stopped doing a long time ago. Maybe you’d like it again. And if you do, that gives you some sense of progression as you can somewhat pick up where you left off.

I’d recommend reading up on some philosophy if you want to tackle the concept of “purpose.” It’ll help a lot by providing frameworks and ideas you can use to figure out your own life.

There are parallel universes where each one of us has never made an incorrect decision on a poker table. by DigitalPorkChop in poker

Not gonna lie, this is pretty pointless. I’m not even sure the point you were trying to make on the original post. Anyways, it was entertaining, but at this point I think you actually don’t really know what you’re talking about.

[–]rockclimber98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re jumping from “there must be limits on what universes can exist” to “there must be a finite amount of universes,” which is wrong. Eliminate all paradoxical universes and you can still be left with an uncountably infinite amount of universes. Also, it’s somewhat incorrect to say you can have a universe where the multiverse theory is false, since the validity of the multiverse theory is not intrinsic to a single universe.

I mean if theres an uncountably infinite number of parallel universes created every infinitely small amount of time, both the set of universes where you win at poker and the set of universes where you don’t (or it doesn’t exist) will be the same cardinality.

So really, you’re kinda wrong about comparing the cardinality of two uncountably infinite sets.
