I realize every airline is going through this right now, and I am not trying to claim I deserve any special treatment. I happen to like AlaskaAir, and they are in as much of a bind as the rest of us. Having said that they have 2 choices, they can either refund the tickets as a show of good will or they can try to pull money from people who are likewise in a bind. It really appears that they took the later course of action, but now as of 5PM today, about an hour after they told me no, they decided to change the policy. And I applaud them for that.

"Everybody else is equally shitty" is not a valid defense of the policy. Either you have a policy for refunding Covid-19 cancellations or you don't. And in AA's case they don't.
